Sir Hugh Myddelton (or Middleton), 1st Baronet (1560 – 10 December 1631) was a Welsh clothmaker, entrepreneur, mine-owner, goldsmith, banker and self-taught engineer. The spelling of his name is inconsistently reproduced, but Myddelton appears to be the earliest, and most consistently used in place names associated with him. Early life Myddelton was born in 1560 at Galch Hill, Denbighshire, Wales. Thomas Myddelton (Lord Mayor Of London)
Sir Thomas Myddelton (1550 – 12 August 1631) was a Welsh merchant who was Lord Mayor of London before becoming a Member of Parliament for London. Early life He was the fourth son of Richard Myddelton, Governor of Denbigh Castle, and Jane Dryhurst. Among his siblings were William Myddelton, a poet and seaman, Sir Hugh Myddelton, 1st Baronet, a merchant and clothmaker, and Robert Myddelton, MP for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis and the City of London. Career As a youth, he was apprenticed to a grocer in London, and made his fortune in trade. He divided his time between London and Wales, and purchased Chirk Castle in 1595 for £5,000. He was a member of the Grocers' Company, a Member of Parliament for the City of London and a founder member of the East India Company, Sheriff of London in 1604 and Lord Mayor of London in 1613. Thomas Myddelton (younger)
Sir Thomas Myddelton (1586–1666) of Chirk Castle, Denbighshire, was an English-born Welsh landowner, politician, and military officer. He became a Member of Parliament in 1624; during the First English Civil War he was a prominent Parliamentarian general, despite having no previous military experience. A member of the moderate Parliamentary opposition to the Stuart monarchy, following the execution of Charles I Myddelton gradually drew closer to the Royalists. In 1659 he took part in Booth's Uprising, an unsuccessful attempt to restore Charles II to the throne, but escaped punishment; following the Restoration he remained an active figure in local politics until his death. Early life Myddelton was born on 25 February 1902 and was named after an Myddelton ancestor. He was the eldest son of Col. Robert Myddelton Biddulph ( Biddulph; March 1761 – 30 August 1814) was a British Member of Parliament (MP). Early life The first son of Penelope ( Dandridge) Biddulph and barrister Michael Biddulph of Ledbury in Herefordshire and Cofton Hall in Worcestershire. His elder sister, Anne Biddulph, was the wife of David Gordon, 14th of Abergeldie. Sir Thomas Myddelton, 1st Baronet
Sir Thomas Myddelton, 1st Baronet (2 November 1624 – 13 July 1663) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons variously between 1646 and 1663. He supported the Parliamentary cause in the English Civil War but later took part in the Cheshire Uprising (1659) in support of the Restoration. Biography Myddelton was the second son of the politician and Parliamentary general Sir Thomas Myddelton and the grandson of Sir Thomas Myddelton who was Lord Mayor of London in 1613. He matriculated at Oriel College, Oxford on 20 March 1640. He acted as ‘liaison’ between parliament and his father who was campaigning on the Welsh border. He was made governor of Chirk Castle on 7 March 1646 and Deputy Lieutenant of Denbighshire on 2 July 1646. In 1646, he was elected Member of Parliament for Flint in the Long Parliament. Sir Thomas Myddelton, 2nd Baronet (ca. 1651 – 5 February 1684) was a Welsh politician who sat in the House of Commons between 1679 and 1681. Myddelton was the eldest son of Sir Thomas Myddelton, 1st Baronet and his first wife Mary Cholmondley, daughter of Thomas Cholmondley of Vale Royal, Cheshire. He succeeded to the baronetcy of Chirke in the County of Denbigh on the early death of his father in 1664. and inherited Chirk Castle on the death of his grandfather in 1666. In 1679, Myddelton was elected MP for Denbighshire and sat until 1681. Myddelton's first wife was Elizabeth Wilbraham, daughter of Sir Thomas Wilbraham of Weston Park, Weston-under-Lizard, Staffordshire. She died in childbirth in 1675 aged 22. Robert Myddelton Biddulph (20 June 1805 – 21 March 1872) was a British landowner and Member of Parliament for the Liberal Party. Early life He was the elder son of Robert Myddelton Biddulph (1761–1814) of Burghill by his wife Charlotte Myddelton of Chirk Castle, Denbighshire. He was educated at Eton College. He succeeded his father in 1814 and his mother in 1843, inheriting the Chirk estate. His younger brother was Thomas Myddelton Biddulph (1809–1878), an officer in the British Army and courtier. Career He was Member of Parliament for Denbigh Boroughs from 1830 to 1832 and for Denbighshire from 1832 to 1835 and from 1852 to 1868. Sir Richard Myddelton, 3rd Baronet (23 March 1655 – 29 April 1716), of Chirk Castle, Denbighshire, was a Welsh landowner and Tory politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1685 to 1716. Myddelton was the fourth son of Sir Thomas Myddelton, 1st Baronet of Chirk Castle and his first wife Mary Cholmondley, daughter of Thomas Cholmondley of Vale Royal, Cheshire. He matriculated at Brasenose College, Oxford in 1670 and then travelled abroad. He succeeded to the baronetcy of Chirke in the County of Denbigh on the death of his brother Sir Thomas Myddelton, 2nd Baronet in 1684.
