Myaundzha (russian: Мя́унджа) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Susumansky District of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located in the Kolyma Mountains, on the right bank of the Myaundzha River (a part of the Ayan-Yuryakh River system), about north-northwest of Magadan, the administrative center of the oblast. Population: History It was founded in 1950 in conjunction with the construction of the coal-fired Arkagalinskaya thermal power station, which began operation in 1955. Urban-type settlement status was granted to it in 1957. Economy and transportation Most of the settlement's population is employed at the power station, which is the second largest source of electricity in the oblast behind the hydroelectric plant on the Kolyma River near Sinegorye. M56 Kolyma Highway
The R504 Kolyma Highway (russian: Федеральная автомобильная дорога «Колыма», ''Federal'naya Avtomobil'naya Doroga «Kolyma»,'' "Federal Automobile Highway 'Kolyma'"), part of the M56 route, is a road through the Russian Far East. It connects Magadan with the town of Nizhny Bestyakh, located on the eastern bank of Lena River, opposite of Yakutsk. At Nizhny Bestyakh the Kolyma Highway connects to the Lena Highway. It is geographically located in the Far East region of the country, and is administratively part of the Far Eastern Federal District. Ayan-Yuryakh River
The Ayan-Yuryakh is a river in the Magadan Oblast of Russia. It is a left tributary of the Kolyma river, which forms at the confluence of the Ayan-Yuryakh and the Kulu. Course The source of the river is in the Khalkan Range. The river flows across the Upper Kolyma Highlands and is fed primarily by rain and snow. Magadan ( rus, Магадан, p=məɡɐˈdan) is a port town and the administrative center of Magadan Oblast, Russia, located on the Sea of Okhotsk in Nagayev Bay (within Taui Bay) and serving as a gateway to the Kolyma region. History Magadan was founded in 1930 in the Ola (river) valley,Vazhenin, p. 4 near the settlement of Nagayevo. During the Stalin era, Magadan was a major transit center for political prisoners sent to forced labour camps. From 1932 to 1953, it was the administrative centre of the Dalstroy organisation—a vast forced-labour gold-mining operation and forced-labour camp system.
