''My Sugar Babe'' is the seventh single by Japanese singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita, released on October 21, 1980. Overview ''My Sugar Babe'' and the coupling song ''Daydream'' are both taken from the album Ride on Time by Tatsuro Yamashita. According to Yamashita, "My Sugar Babe" is a song dedicated about (hence the name of the song), a band that he partook in before starting his solo career. He had the vague desire to write a song like this for quite some time but when he started to work on the album "Ride on Time", he felt that now was the right time, so he wrote it. The song was used as a theme song for the Japanese detective drama series ''Keishi-K'' which aired on NTV. Additionally, an instrumental version from the drama was included in the bonus tracks of the remastered edition of "Ride on Time" and a short version was also included in the "Special Bonus Disc" of his 2002 compilation album ''The RCA/Air Years LP Box 1976-1982''. ''Ride on Time'' is the fifth studio album by Japanese singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita, released by AIR/ RVC on September 19, 1980. It is best known for its title track, which was used in the television commercial for Maxell cassette tapes starring Yamashita, and released as a single in May 1980. The song became his first charting single, peaking at No. 3 on Oricon's weekly singles chart with sales of 417,000 copies. In 2003, the song was featured on the television drama ''Good Luck!!'' starring Takuya Kimura, and entered the top 20 on the chart again. The album was released after the title track became a hit, and gained commercial success subsequently. It topped the Oricon weekly albums chart for a week in October 1980, selling more than 220,000 units. Oricon Singles Chart
The Oricon Singles Chart is the Japanese music industry-standard singles popularity chart issued daily, weekly, monthly and yearly by Oricon. Chart rankings are based on physical singles' sales. Until 2017, Oricon did not track download sales. In Japan, physical sales decreased sharply in the 2000s, while download sales hit three to four times the amount of single sales. In November 2017, Oricon introduced its first digital songs chart, separate from its main physical singles chart. In November 2018, Oricon launched a streaming chart, and introduced a combined singles chart that utilizes physical single sales, downloads, and streams. Shigeharu Mukai
is a Japanese jazz trombonist. Mukai attended Doshisha University but left before obtaining his degree to become a professional musician. Early in his career he worked with Yoshio Otomo, Ryo Kawasaki, and Hiroshi Fukumura, then led his own ensemble, including a performance at the Shinjuku Jazz Festival. He went on to work with Terumasa Hino, Akira Sakata, Kazumi Watanabe, and Yosuke Yamashita, as well as the ensemble Spik and Span and international musicians such as João Bosco, Billy Hart, and Elvin Jones. was a Japanese actor, singer, and filmmaker. He is known for starring in the ''Akumyo'' series, the ''Hoodlum Soldier'' series, and the ''Zatoichi'' series.
