My Place (album)
''My Place'' is the second studio album by Polish jazz singer Monika Borzym. It was released on 15 October 2013 through Sony Music Entertainment Poland. The album is promoted by the single "Off to Sea". It was certified Gold in Poland two weeks after its premiere. Recording and production ''My Place'' was produced by Matt Pierson, with whom Borzym has previously worked on her debut album, ''Girl Talk'' (2011). Borzym wrote most of the tracks with a friend, pianist Mariusz Obijalski. The album also features three covers: a jazz version of Rihanna's hit single "Only Girl (in the World)", "The Quiet Crowd" by Patrick Watson, and Kenny Rankin's "In the Name of Love". Borzym was joined in the studio by guitarist Larry Campbell (collaborator of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon), drummer Kenny Wollesen (John Zorn, Norah Jones), and bassist Tony Scherr (Norah Jones, Bill Frisell). Monika Borzym
Monika Borzym (; born March 3, 1990) is a Polish jazz singer who studied at Los Angeles Music Academy. Her debut album ''Girl Talk'', released in 2011 was certified platinum in Poland. History Early life and education (1998–2008) Monika Borzym began her musical education in 1998, when she started attending music school in Warsaw and playing the piano. From August 2005 to June 2006, she was living in the U.S., where she attended John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois and started learning jazz improvisation from Gail Bisesi in Chicago. After her return to Poland, she continued her education in Fryderyk Chopin Public Secondary School of Music in Warsaw in the class of Jazz Vocal (also attended by another Polish jazz vocalist, Aga Zaryan, several years earlier). John Scofield
John Scofield (born December 26, 1951), sometimes referred to as "Sco", is an American guitarist and composer whose music over a long career has blended jazz, jazz fusion, funk, blues, soul and rock. Sandy Julien Wilhelm (born 22 April 1975) better known by his stage name Sandy Vee, is a French music producer and songwriter. He gained much commercial and critical recognition for co-producing Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)", Katy Perry's “ Firework”, and eight songs on the David Guetta album ''One Love''. He originally played bass in a variety of jazz, rock, and punk bands before gaining exposure to the underground DJ scene in France. He currently resides in New York City. Crystal Nicole Johnson, sometimes credited as Cristyle is an American recording artist, singer, and songwriter who signed her first deal with So So Def/EMI Music in 2007. Crystal Nicole signed with Blackground Records/ Interscope Records in October 2010 and released her first single "Pinch Me", produced by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox in June 2011. Steve Cardenas is a guitarist who began his career in Kansas City, Missouri and has been part of the New York City jazz community since 1995. Career Cardenas was a member of the Paul Motian Electric Bebop Band, Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, Steve Swallow Quintet, and Joey Baron's band, Killer Joey. He is currently a member of the Ben Allison Band, John Patitucci Electric Guitar Quartet, Jon Cowherd Mercy Project and Adam Nussbaum Lead Belly Project. Romero Lubambo
Romero Lubambo (born 1955) is a Brazilian jazz guitarist. Career He was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He grew up with American jazz and classical music in the house because his uncle played guitar, lived next door, and visited frequently. Lubambo tried classical piano for two years but quit. At thirteen, he picked up the guitar and taught himself how to play because there was no one else around to do it. The following year he joined a band and performed professionally for the first time. From 1972 to 1977, he attended the Villa-Lobos School of Music to study classical guitar. He went to college and got a degree in engineering in 1980, but he pursued music instead. Patrick Bruce Metheny ( ; born August 12, 1954) is an American jazz guitarist and composer. He is the leader of the Pat Metheny Group and is also involved in duets, solo works, and other side projects. His style incorporates elements of progressive and contemporary jazz, latin jazz, and jazz fusion. Metheny has three gold albums and 20 Grammy Awards and is the only person to win Grammys in 10 categories. He is the younger brother of jazz flugelhornist Mike Metheny.
