My Brother The Cow
''My Brother the Cow'' is the fourth studio album by the American grunge band Mudhoney. It was released on Reprise Records on March 28, 1995 (see 1995 in music). ''My Brother the Cow'' includes numerous direct references to bands that influenced Mudhoney's sound. The song "F.D.K. (Fearless Doctor Killers)", for example, is a reference to the Bad Brains song "F.V.K. (Fearless Vampire Killers)". "Orange Ball-Peen Hammer" alludes to the song "Orange Claw Hammer" by Captain Beefheart, as well as containing lyrics borrowed from Led Zeppelin. "1995" is homage to the song "1969" by The Stooges, and also includes musical references to "L.A. Blues", another Stooges song. The original CD release includes a 34-minute hidden track named "woC eht rehtorB yM", which consists of most of the album's preceding songs played backwards. The Stooges
The Stooges, originally billed as the Psychedelic Stooges, also known as Iggy and the Stooges, was an American rock band formed in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 1967 by singer Iggy Pop, guitarist Ron Asheton, drummer Scott Asheton, and bassist Dave Alexander. Initially playing a raw, primitive style of rock and roll, the band sold few records in their original incarnation and gained a reputation for their confrontational performances, which often involved acts of self-mutilation by Iggy Pop. After releasing two albums – ''The Stooges'' (1969) and ''Fun House'' (1970) – the group disbanded briefly, and reformed with an altered lineup (with Ron Asheton replacing Dave Alexander on bass and James Williamson taking up guitar) to release a third album, ''Raw Power'' (1973), before breaking up again in 1974. Mudhoney Albums
Mudhoney is an American rock band formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1988, following the demise of Green River. Its members are singer and rhythm guitarist Mark Arm, lead guitarist Steve Turner, bassist Guy Maddison and drummer Dan Peters. Original bassist Matt Lukin left the band in 1999. Mudhoney's early releases on the Sub Pop label, particularly their debut single "Touch Me I'm Sick" and the ''Superfuzz Bigmuff'' EP, were instrumental in the creation of the Grunge genre. Although the band found little commercial success and remained somewhat 'underground' and non-mainstream, Mudhoney has released ten studio albums and inspired countless grunge and alternative rock musicians during their long career. Harmonica
The harmonica, also known as a French harp or mouth organ, is a free reed wind instrument used worldwide in many musical genres, notably in blues, American folk music, classical music, jazz, country, and rock. The many types of harmonica include diatonic, chromatic, tremolo, octave, orchestral, and bass versions. A harmonica is played by using the mouth (lips and tongue) to direct air into or out of one (or more) holes along a mouthpiece. Behind each hole is a chamber containing at least one reed. Steve Turner (guitarist)
Steven Neil Turner (born March 28, 1965) is an American guitarist, most famous for his work with Seattle band Mudhoney. Early life Turner was born in 1965 in Houston, Texas, but moved with his family to Seattle when he was two. Career His first band was called The Ducky Boys. The lineup included future Pearl Jam member Stone Gossard. The Ducky Boys split around 1983. Turner later joined Mark Arm in Mr. Epp and the Calculations, which Arm described as "The worst band in the world". Mr. Epp played their final show with Turner in 1984. Turner was also the first guitarist in Green River which again featured Arm and Gossard, and also acquired the services of Jeff Ament (later Pearl Jam) on bass guitar. Strong, Martin C. Marimba
The marimba () is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars that are struck by mallets. Below each bar is a resonator pipe that amplifies particular harmonics of its sound. Compared to the xylophone, the timbre of the marimba is warmer, deeper, more resonant, and more pure. Dan Peters
Daniel Joe Peters (born August 18, 1967) is the drummer for Mudhoney, having played with them since their formation in 1988. Prior to Mudhoney, he joined Bundle of Hiss when he was fifteen years old. He was also briefly the drummer for Nirvana in the summer of 1990, playing on one single, " Sliver", and making one live appearance with them that September in Seattle, shortly before drummer Dave Grohl joined. Peters has expressed his only regret as missing the chance to play drums on Nirvana's album ''Nevermind''. Mudhoney's latest offering is ''Digital Garbage'' released on September 19, 2018. Peters also played drums for the Ellensburg, Washington based band Screaming Trees from 1990 to 1991, and appeared in the movie '' Black Sheep'' alongside David Spade and Chris Farley. Matt Lukin
Matthew David Lukin (born August 16, 1964) is an American former musician, best known as a bassist and founding member of the Melvins and Mudhoney. Career Melvins (1983–1987) Lukin co-founded the Melvins in 1983 with guitarist/vocalist Buzz Osborne and drummer Mike Dillard in Montesano, Washington, where the trio had attended high school together. Beginning as a Jimi Hendrix cover band and then as a hardcore punk band, they changed their sound when Dillard left and a new drummer, Dale Crover joined the band, playing slower and heavier rock music. Soon they were one of the most important bands in the early Seattle-area grunge scene. When Crover joined the band, the Melvins also relocated to Aberdeen, Washington.
