Mwingi Water Project
The Mwingi Water Project was a 2008 church sponsored project to supply clean potable water in the Mwingi District in Kenya. The project drilled 30 wells to provide water for 56,000 people. This effort is one of several ongoing water projects in the region, sponsored by both the Kenyan government and church based relief organizations. A humanitarian fund managed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) supplied funding and tools for the project, while the wells were dug by Kenyan contractors. Local community members helped in the construction by digging trenches, moving pipe and mixing cement. After receiving appropriate training from LDS Church consultants, a community water committee became responsible for maintaining the wells. A similar water project, also sponsored by the LDS Church, was completed in 1989 in the Ngorika region of Kenya. Mwingi District
Mwingi District was a former district of Kenya, located in the now defunct Eastern Province. The district had a population of 303.828 (1999 census). Its capital was Mwingi town. Local people are mostly of the Akamba tribe. North of Mwingi town, is the Mwingi National Reserve (formerly Kitui North National Reserve), which borders Meru National Park and Kora National Park. The district had two electoral constituencies, Mwingi North and Mwingi South. Kalonzo Musyoka, a prominent politician is from Mwingi. In 2010, due to the promulgation of new constitution the district was merged into Kitui County Kitui County is a county in the former Eastern Province of Kenya. Care for Africa registered as the Peter Hewitt Care for Africa Foundation, is an Australian-based, non-government organisation that specialises in international aid in the Tarime District in the Mara Region of Tanzania. The Nobelity Project
The Nobelity Project is a nonprofit organisation based in Austin, Texas, USA. It was founded by Turk and Christy Pipkin in 2006, while producing the film '' Nobelity''. The principal goals include education and bettering the lives of children across the globe. The Nobelity Project's programs relate to several issues: Nobelity in Schools, the Kenyan Water Project, and the films, ''Nobelity'' (2006) and '' One Peace at a Time'' (2009).
