Muziekcentrum Vredenburg
Muziekcentrum Vredenburg was a music venue in Utrecht, Netherlands with a capacity of 5,000 people. It was designed by Dutch architect Herman Hertzberger. The venue hosted concerts by many famous artists, spanning many different genres. The old building (except the main hall) has been demolished and the city of Utrecht has built a new, bigger venue on the same location. The main hall of the old building has been integrated into the new building. Herman Hertzberger
Herman Hertzberger (born 6 July 1932) is a Dutch architect, and a professor emeritus of the Delft University of Technology. In 2012 he received the Royal Gold Medal of the Royal Institute of British Architects. Biography Herman Hertzberger was born on 6 July 1932 in Amsterdam. He completed his studies at the Delft University of Technology in 1958, where he was a professor from 1970 to 1999. From 1959 to 1963 he is a part of the infamous FORUM editorial, together with Aldo van Eyck and Jaap Bakema. They stir up the architectural discussion at the time, especially concerning the reconstruction of dwellings after the World War II, Second World War. Career Hertzberger and Aldo van Eyck influenced the development of the Dutch Structuralism (architecture), Structuralist movement of the 1960s and 1970s. The TivoliVredenburg is a contemporary music complex located in Utrecht, Netherlands. The venue consists of five halls designed acoustically for a specific music genre. Along with its hall, the venue also features an " amateur stage" and a cafe. History The venue was a part of , an urban redevelopment project for the city of Utrecht. Designer Herman Hertzberger wanted to combine the atmosphere of the Tivoli Oudegracht and Muziekcentrum Vredenburg. Design work began in 2005 with fellow architects Jo Coenen and . All plans were approved by the city in 2010 and the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg was demolished in 2011 to make way for the new music venue. Music venues in the Netherlands are a vivid part of the social cultural environment of the country. In every big city there are concert halls for popular music, classical music and jazz.
