Bernt Julius Muus
Bernt Julius Muus (March 15, 1832 – May 25, 1900) was a Norwegian-American Lutheran minister and church leader. He helped found St. Olaf College, a private liberal arts college in Northfield, Minnesota. Biography Early life and education Muus was born in the parish of Snaasen in Throndhjems Stift in Snåsa, Nord-Trøndelag, Norway, the grandson of the priest Jens Rynning (1778–1857) and the nephew of the emigrant author Ole Rynning (1809–1838). Having graduated from the Latin school of Trondheim in 1849, he entered the University of Christiania where he studied theology and completed his theological training in 1854. He immigrated to the United States in 1859. Career Muus was the first resident pastor of Holden Lutheran Church in Kenyon, Minnesota. During a forty-year ministry, Muus traveled indefatigably to establish and minister to congregations in southern Minnesota. Rudolf Muus (February 19, 1862 – November 9, 1935) was a Norway, Norwegian author of popular literature. Biography Rudolf Wilhelm Muus was born at Aker, Norway, Aker in Akershus, Norway. He was the son of Abraham Falch Muus, and his grandfather was Isach Muus, the owner of Ã…sen and UllevÃ¥l farms. Rudolf grew up at Ã…sen farm, close to the working class districts of Sagene and Torshov. The site now used by ''Ragna Ringdals Dagsenter'', a non-profit center for the mentally disabled in Oslo. He started writing at about the age of six, and at school he was given 50 øre for each essay he wrote for his classmates. When he was about 7–8 years old, he was the theatre director for Aasen Theater and instructed young actors in little plays he had written himself. Varinka Wichfeld Muus
Varinka Corinna Wichfeld Muus (9 February 1922 – 18 December 2002) was a Danish resistance fighter under the German occupation of Denmark in World War II. Her mother was Monica Wichfeld, an upper-class Ulsterwoman who was a leading member of the Danish resistance during the German occupation of Denmark and was the first woman in Denmark to receive a capital sentence for resistance against the Nazis. In 1943, Varinka became the secretary of her husband-to-be, Flemming Muus, who acted as chief agent in Denmark for the British Special Operations Executive (SOE). When Muus was forced to move to Sweden, Wichfeld was charged with telegraphing messages to London as only she knew the secret codes. Together with Muus, she moved to London in 1944 where they remained until the end of the war. Didrik Muus
Didrik Nielssøn Muus (1633 – 7 February 1706) was a Norwegian priest, painter, copper engraver and sculptor. Muus was born at Stange in Hedmark, Norway. He was the son of Niels Rasmussen Muus (1595–1663) and Marichen Didriksdatter Nøff (died ca 1660). Muus attended to school in Roskilde and became a student in theological studies at the University of Copenhagen in 1653. He graduated in 1659. He served as chaplain to the priest in Ringsaker from 1661. In 1686, Muus was offered the position of vicar at Stord where he would serve for the next 20 years. He painted several altarpieces, epitaphs and portraits, and is regarded as a forerunner of other artists. Personal life Muus married ca. 1667 with a noble woman and widow, Maren Skaktavl (1624–1718). Mary Jane Crafoord Muus (10 June 1919 – 12 July 2007) was a Danish painter and illustrator. Most of her works portray people, either in portraits or walking about on streets or market places in foreign countries. She is remembered above all for her sensitive, realistic illustrations in a wide range of Danish books. One of Denmark's foremost 20th-century illustrators, she had a unique style of her own. Biography Born in Odder in central Jutland, she studied both painting and graphic arts at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Aksel Jørgensen (1936–42). She travelled widely to France, Spain, Italy, North Africa and North America. Flemming Muus
Major Flemming Bruun Muus, DSO (born 21 November 1907, Copenhagen, Denmark – died 23 September 1982, Virum, Denmark) was a Danish writer and resistance fighter during the German occupation of Denmark in the Second World War. In 1942, he was recruited in England by the Special Operations Executive and sent to Denmark in March 1943 as their chief agent. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his contribution to the resistance movement and assistance with Denmark's liberation by the Allies. After the war, Muus was arrested by British authorities for embezzlement and surrendered to the Danish. In June 1946 he was sentenced by a Copenhagen court to two years imprisonment for embezzlement. He was pardoned after a few months provided he went into voluntary exile from Denmark for five years.
