Muston (pronounced ''Musson'') is an village and former civil parish, now in the parish of Bottesford, in the Melton district, in north-east Leicestershire, England. It is 18.6 miles (30 km) east of Nottingham, five miles (8 km) west of Grantham on the A52 and 12.5 miles (20 km) north of Melton Mowbray. It lies on the Leicestershire/Lincolnshire county border, two miles east of Bottesford. The River Devon (pronounced ''Deevon''flowsthrough the village. In 1931 the parish had a population of 218. On 1 April 1936 the parish was abolished and merged with Bottesford. Facilities The parish church is dedicated to St John the Baptist. It is in the Belvoir Group of parishes, based in Bottesford, and under the Diocese of Leicester. Muston is a village and civil parish, in the Scarborough district of North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated south-west from the centre of the coastal town of Filey, and on the A1039 road. History According to the ''A Dictionary of British Place Names'' 'Muston' is derived from either the 12th-century "mouse infected farmstead", or a "farmstead of a man called Musi", being an Old Norse person name with the Old English 'tun' (farmstead or enclosure). Muston is listed in the ''Domesday Book'' as "Mustone", in the Torbar Hundred of the East Riding of Yorkshire. The settlement included seven households, twenty-one villagers, six smallholders, and ten ploughlands. In 1066 Karli son of Karli held the Lordship, this transferring in 1086 to Gilbert of Ghent who also became Tenant-in-chief to King William I. __NOTOC__ Muston is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on Kangaroo Island overlooking the coastal lagoon known as Pelican Lagoon about south-west of the state capital of Adelaide and about south-east of the municipal seat of Kingscote. Its boundaries were created in March 2002 for the “long established name” which was derived from Arthur Muston, the founder of the Colonial Salt Company which became the Commonwealth Salt Refining Company in 1905. A railway line which operated from 1910 to 1954 passed through what is the locality from a salt mining operation at Salt Lake in what is now the adjoining locality of Haines moving salt to a now-demolished jetty on the Pelican Lagoon coastline where it was loaded and shipped to Edithburgh for refining. Muston is bounded by the American River Road in part to the west, the Hog Bay Road to the south and by the coastline with Pelican Lagoon in part to the east.
