Must Be Santa
''Must Be Santa'' is a 1999 Canadian television film that tells the story of Floyd Court (Arnold Pinnock), who is selected as the successor to Santa Claus. Robert Sherrin produced the film while Brad Turner was director. At the time of its release, it was considered to be one of the most expensive such projects ever produced by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It was made more expensive when production of the film was interrupted in February 1999 by a strike of the CBC's technicians. Production resumed in May after a labor settlement. Joe Flaherty makes an appearance as his SCTV character Count Floyd. The film won a Gemini Award in 2000 for Best Visual Effects. Universal Studios provided international distribution. Gemini Award
The Gemini Awards were awards given by the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television between 1986–2011 to recognize the achievements of Canada's television industry. The Gemini Awards are analogous to the Emmy Awards given in the United States and the BAFTA Television Awards in the United Kingdom. First held in 1986 to replace the ACTRA Award, the ceremony celebrated Canadian television productions with awards in 87 categories, along with other special awards such as lifetime achievement awards. The Academy had previously presented the one-off Bijou Awards in 1981, inclusive of some television productions. In April 2012, the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that the Gemini Awards and the Genie Awards would be discontinued and replaced by a new award ceremony dedicated to all forms of Canadian media, including television, film, and digital media, dubbed the "Canadian Screen Awards". Motion pictures featuring Santa Claus constitute their own subgenre of the Christmas film genre. Early films of Santa revolve around similar simple plots of Santa's Christmas Eve visit to children. In 1897, in a short film called ''Santa Claus Filling Stockings'', Santa Claus is simply filling stockings from his pack of toys. Another film called ''Santa Claus and the Children'' was made in 1898. A year later, a film directed by George Albert Smith titled ''Santa Claus'' (or ''The Visit from Santa Claus'' in the United Kingdom) was created. Keenan MacWilliam (born 26 December 1989) is a Canadian actress, singer, dancer, writer, director, fashion designer, producer, art director, graphic designer, and associate producer.
