''Musical Justice'' is a 1931 Paramount Pictures musical short starring Betty Boop and Rudy Vallée. Plot summary ''Musical Justice'' stars Rudy Vallée as judge and His Connecticut Yankees as jury presiding over the Court of Musical Justice. The judge hears three separate cases. The final case is the ''State vs. Betty Boop'', in which the judge tells Betty Boop (Mae Questel) that "she has broken every law of music". Boop's rendition of "Don't Take My Boop-Oop-A-Doop Away" results in a verdict of not guilty. Rudy Vallée
Hubert Prior Vallée (July 28, 1901 – July 3, 1986), known professionally as Rudy Vallée, was an American singer, musician, actor, and radio host. He was one of the first modern pop stars of the teen idol type. Early life Hubert Prior Vallée was born in Island Pond, Vermont, United States, on July 28, 1901, the son of Catherine Lynch and Charles Alphonse Vallée. His maternal grandparents were English and Irish, while his paternal grandparents were French-Canadians from Quebec. Vallée grew up in Westbrook, Maine. On March 29, 1917, he enlisted to fight in World War I, but was discharged when U.S. Navy authorities discovered he was only 15 years old. He had enlisted in Portland, Maine, under the false birth date of July 28, 1899. He was discharged at the Naval Training Station in Newport, Rhode Island, on May 17, 1917, after 41 days of active service. Margaret Louise Hines (October 15, 1909 – December 23, 1985), also known as Marjorie Hines or Margie Hines, was an American voice actress. Mae Questel (born Mae Kwestel, September 13, 1908 – January 4, 1998) was an American actress. She was best known for providing the voices for the animated characters Betty Boop (from 1931) and Olive Oyl (from 1933). She began in vaudeville, primarily working as an impressionist. She later performed on Broadway and in films and television, including her role as Aunt Bethany in ''National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation'' (1989). Early career and Betty Boop Born Mae Kwestel in the Bronx, New York City, to Simon and Freida (née Glauberman) Kwestel, she attended Morris High School and studied acting at the American Theatre Wing and with the Theatre Guild. Although she wanted to be an entertainer, her parents, who were Orthodox Jews, actively discouraged her from doing so, at one point forcing her to leave the Theatre Guild school. Bonnie Poe (October 15, 1912 – October 16, 1993) was an American actress and voice artist, best known for providing the voice for the Fleischer Studios animated character Betty Boop beginning in 1933, starting with the Popeye the Sailor series and featuring in a dozen cartoons. She voiced her in a live-action segment on the special '' Hollywood on Parade No. A-8'', performing a skit with Bela Lugosi providing a portrayal of Count Dracula. Production background One short (# B-9) is frequently misidentified as future Stooge Curly Howard's first appearance on film, as cited by historians (he replaces Shemp). This is because it was mistaken for a 1932 short when Criterion Pictures acquired the shorts for television distribution in the early 1950s, and slapped a generic title card on all films in this series with a 1932 copyright notice.
