Music For The Amorphous Body Study Center
''Music for the Amorphous Body Study Center'' is an EP by Stereolab, created in collaboration with New York sculptor Charles Long. The songs became part of Long's exhibit, complementing each of his sculptures. The album was initially available only at the exhibit in a pressing of 1500; another limited pressing was later released in stores but it is now out of print. All tracks were included in the compilation album ''Aluminum Tunes, Aluminum Tunes: Switched On, Vol. 3''. Track listing The untitled track is an instrumental reprise of "The Extension Trip". Stereolab
Stereolab are an Anglo- French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990. Led by the songwriting team of Tim Gane and Lætitia Sadier, the group's music combines influences from krautrock, lounge and 1960s pop music, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French. Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the Surrealist and Situationist movements. On stage, they play in a more feedback-driven and guitar-oriented style. The band also draw from funk, jazz and Brazilian music, and were one of the first artists to be dubbed "post-rock". They are regarded among the most innovative and influential groups of the 1990s. Post-rock
Post-rock is a form of experimental rock characterized by a focus on exploring textures and timbre over traditional rock song structures, chords, or riffs. Post-rock artists are often instrumental, typically combining rock instrumentation with electronics. The genre emerged within the indie and underground music scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. However, due to its abandonment of rock conventions, it often bears little resemblance musically to contemporary indie rock, borrowing instead from diverse sources including ambient, electronica, jazz, krautrock, dub, and minimalist classical. Lounge music is a type of easy listening music popular in the 1950s and 1960s. It may be meant to evoke in the listeners the feeling of being in a place, usually with a tranquil theme, such as a jungle, an island paradise or outer space. Duophonic Ultra High Frequency Disks Limited (also known as Duophonic Records or Duophonic Super 45s) is a British independent record label formed by English-French rock band Stereolab in 1991. The label has two imprints: Duophonic Ultra High Frequency Disks for UK Stereolab releases licensed to various labels worldwide, and Duophonic Super 45s for releases of other artists and certain Stereolab UK-only releases. Duophonic's first release was Stereolab's debut EP ''Super 45'' (1991), limited to 880 copies; of these, forty copies had handmade covers that were produced by Martin Pike in his father's garage. Bands that have released records on Duophonic include Broadcast, the High Llamas, Labradford, Tortoise, Pram, Yo La Tengo, the Notwist, and Apparat Organ Quartet. ''Wow and Flutter'' is an EP by the post-rock band Stereolab, which served as the second single from their 1994 album ''Mars Audiac Quintet''. A limited edition of 3,000 7" copies was released with hand-painted covers. The EP was also released on CD and 10" vinyl. Two of the tracks are alternative versions of songs on ''Mars Audiac Quintet''. "Wow and Flutter" itself is a re-recording, while "Nihilist Assault Group, Pts. 3-5" comprises sections excised from the album version, which was originally planned to be a side-long suite similar in concept to the 18-minute "Jenny Ondioline" on ''Transient Random-Noise Bursts with Announcements''.
