Mushtaq Pahalgami
Mushtaq Ahmad Magrey, also known as Mushtaq Pahalgami (born 1981), is a social activist, environmentalist and president of Himalayan Welfare Organization. He hails from Pahalgam town of Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir. He was honoured with an award from the Ministry of Tourism working for the cause of education, public health and environmental conservation in Pahalgam, Kashmir. He is also one of the earliest promoters of 'green-trek' in the region with the purpose of inculcating environmental social responsibility & a sense of moral social duty among the youth, and has been raising his voice against the encroachment of wildlife areas by influential people in Pahalgam. Pahalgam
Pahalgam (), known as Pahalgom (; in Kashmiri) is a town and a notified area committee, near Anantnag city in the Anantnag district of the Indian-administered union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a popular tourist destination and hill station. Its lush green meadows and pristine waters attract thousands of tourists from all over the world each year. Sind River
The Sind River or the Sindh River is a river in the Ganderbal district of the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is a major tributary of the Jhelum River and is 108 kilometres long. Geography The Sind River forms the Sind Valley. The source of the river lies in the Machoi Glacier at an elevation of 4800m, east of the Amarnath temple and south of the Zoji La. It flows through Panjtarni (a camping site of Amarnath yatra) southwards up to Domail where it joins a tributary which doubles its flow from the Kolhoi Glacier. It then flows mostly westwards along the NH 1D and is fed by many glacial streams on its way to Ganderbal town. Attacks On RTI Activists In India
Many Right to Information Act (RTI) activists, including policemen, have been harassed and even murdered for seeking information to "promote transparency and accountability in the working of every public authority" in India. Many face assaults on a regular basis. People seeking information from their gram panchayat and the local administration also face social ostracism. A few activists who sought information under RTI related to MNREGA scams, were killed. Many threats and attacks (including murder) go unreported by the media.
