Ivan Mushketov
Ivan Vasilʹevich Mushketov (russian: Иван Васильевич Мушкетов; 1850–1902) was a famous Russian geologist, tectonist, explorer, and geographer. Biography Mushketov was born 9 (21 New Style) January 1850 in the Dango Cossack area of the Don region and entered Saint Petersburg University in 1867, but soon transferred to the Mining InstituteP. Karpinsky, and graduated from there in 1872.(1902) "Obituary: Professor Mushketoff" Geographical Journal, 19(4): 514–515. Upon graduation in 1872 he began his "continuous, almost uninterrupted explorations of Russia" and China which included a 6-year term (beginning 1873) as a mining attaché to the Governor General of Turkestan. Mushketov Glacier (Antarctica)
Mushketov Glacier () is a large glacier trending northeastward, draining the area between the Wohlthat Mountains on the west and the Weyprecht, Payer and Lomonosov Mountains on the east, in Queen Maud Land. Discovered and plotted from air photos by German Antarctic Expedition, 1938–39. Replotted from air photos and surveys by Soviet Antarctic Expedition, 1958–59, and named after Ivan V. Mushketov (1850–1902), Russian geologist and geographer.
