Musgrove Block
The Musgrove Block is a historic commercial building at 2 Main Street in the center of Andover, Massachusetts. The three-story brick building was built in 1895 on the site of a former town green, and forms part of Andover's central Elm Square intersection. The building exhibits Romanesque Revival styling, featuring granite trim elements and ornate brick detailing. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Description and history The Musgrove Block occupies most of a roughly trapezoidal lot on the east side of Elm Square, the six-way road intersection at the heart of downtown Andover. It is a three-story red brick building, with commercial storefronts in the ground level, and office space on the upper floors. The building presents a broad facade to the intersection, with a small plaza in front. This facade is 15 bays wide, with six storefronts and a building entrance. Musgrove Mill State Historic Site was the site of the Battle of Musgrove Mill, an action in the American Revolutionary War, which occurred on August 19, 1780, near the Enoree River, on what (in the 21st century) is the border between Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Spartanburg, Laurens County, South Carolina, Laurens, and Union County, South Carolina, Union Counties in South Carolina, approximately seven miles from Interstate 26. In the August 1780, a group of 200 Patriot (American Revolution), Patriot Militia (United States), militiamen attempted to strike what they thought was an equal number of Loyalist (American Revolution), Loyalists camped near a ford on the Enoree River. Charlton Musgrove
Charlton Musgrove is a village and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated north east of Wincanton in the South Somerset district. The village has a population of 398. The parish includes the hamlets of Barrow, Holbrook, Southmarsh, and part of Shalford. History In 1066 the holder of the manor was Godman but passed to Robert FitzGerold by the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. The parish of Charlton Musgrove was part of the Norton Ferris Hundred. In 1861 the Dorset Central Railway opened a standard gauge track through the western side of the parish, joining Templecombe with Cole. It was linked to Glastonbury in the following year by the Somerset and Dorset Railway and was double lined in 1887. The line was closed in 1966.
