Museum Of Fine Arts Of Seville
The Museum of Fine Arts of Seville ( es, Museo de Bellas Artes de Sevilla) is a museum in Seville, Spain, a collection of mainly Spanish visual arts from the medieval period to the early 20th century, including a choice selection of works by artists from the so-called Golden Age of Sevillian painting during the 17th century, such as Murillo, Zurbarán, Francisco de Herrera the younger, and Valdés Leal. The building itself was built in 1594. The institution of the provincial museum of Seville was created in September 1835. Items were moved to the museum in the ensuing years. The building it is housed in was originally home to the convent of the Order of the ''Merced Calzada de la Asunción'', founded by St. Peter Nolasco during the reign of Ferdinand III. Extensive remodeling in the early 17th century was led by the architect Juan de Oviedo y de la Bandera. Gustavo Bacarisas
Gustavo Bacarisa (1872–1971) GMH was a Gibraltarian painter. He was born in Gibraltar and died in Seville, Spain. His work, of a figurative style and varied themes, is characterised by the rich use of colour. He was married to Swedish artist and designer Elsa Jernås. Career Bacarisas studied in Paris, France and worked in Buenos Aires, Argentina until 1916. He later relocated to the Andalusian capital of Seville. He also travelled to Sweden in order to create the sets and figurines for the opera ''Carmen''. He did the same for the premier of ''El amor brujo'' ( es, Love, the Magician) at the ''Teatro Español'' in Madrid. During the Spanish civil war he relocated, this time to the Portuguese island of Madeira, returning in 1937 to Gibraltar. Juan del Castillo (c. 1590 – c. 1657) was a Spanish Baroque painter. Many of his paintings became famous during his time due to his pupil, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo. Del Castillo was the youngest brother of the painter Agustín. Both were trained in painting by Luis Fernández in Seville. Manuel Cabral Aguado-Bejarano
Manuel Cabral Aguado-Bejarano (1827, Seville - 1891, Seville) was a Spanish painter in the Romantic style; best known for his Costumbrismo scenes. Biography He was the son of the painter, Antonio Cabral Bejarano. He actually began his studies with José Domínguez Bécquer and only later took lessons from his father. In 1845, he enrolled at what is now the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville. After graduating, he was named an honorary "Painter to the Queen" ( Isabel II). Many years later, he became a Professor there. He received honorary mention at the Exposiciones Nacionales de Bellas Artes in 1858, 1864, 1879 and 1880, (in Cádiz), and in 1856, 1858, 1867 and 1878 in Seville. Bartolomé Bermejo
Bartolomé Bermejo ( 1440 – c.1501) was a Spanish painter who adopted Flemish painting techniques and conventions. Born in Cordoba, he is known for his work in the Crown of Aragon, including the Principality of Catalonia and the Kingdom of Valencia. His real name was Bartolomé de Cárdenas: the name Bermejo, which means auburn in Spanish, possibly relates to his hair colour. Bermejo may relate also to his name, Cardenas; Cardeno means purplish. Mariano Benlliure y Gil (8 September 18629 November 1947) was a Spanish sculptor and medallist, who executed many public monuments and religious sculptures in Spain, working in a heroic realist style. Life and works He was born in the Lower Street of the Carmen neighborhood of Valencia. His earliest sculptures featured bullfighting themes, modeled in wax and cast in bronze. At the age of thirteen he showed a wax ''modello'' of a picador at the Exposición Nacional de Bellas Artes, 1876.
