Museum Of Polo And Hall Of Fame
The Museum of Polo and Hall of Fame is a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization to celebrate the sport of polo.Horace Laffaye, Dennis J. Iglehart, Leverett S. Miller, and George C. Sherman, Jr. in Lexington, Kentucky in 1988. The first inductions into the hall of fame were in 1990. In 1997, it was relocated to a ten-acre estate in Lake Worth, Florida. The museum includes a trophy by Paul Storr and paintings by Franklin Brooke Voss, George Derville Rowlandson and Paul Brown. Mike Azzaro is an American professional polo player from San Antonio, Texas. Azzaro's current handicap is 6 goals, but he held the sport's highest handicap of 10 goals for over ten years. Azzaro was awarded ''Polo Magazine's'' Polo Excellence Award for Young Player of the Year in 1987 and 1990, and the award for Player of the Year in 1994. Known for his aggressive forward style of play, he has always been a crowd favorite. Playing with five-time Player of the Year winner Memo Gracida, they formed one of the most powerful duos in polo. Delmar Carroll
Delmer W. Carroll (October 30, 1919 - May 9, 1982) was an American champion polo player, Thoroughbred racehorse owner/ trainer, and soldier during World War II. Biography Del Carroll had begun riding horses as a boy of ten which led to him serving in the US Army cavalry during World War II. He rose to the rank of first lieutenant. According to a 1945 Pennsylvania Military College article, he "was a member of the mechanized cavalry group that did the dangerous advance scouting during the German campaign." Carroll's knowledge of horses led to his participation in the game of polo. One of the top twenty-five players in the world during the 1950s and 1960s, he became an eight-goal handicap player. George Herbert "Pete" Bostwick (August 14, 1909 – January 13, 1982) was an American court tennis player, a steeplechase jockey and horse trainer, and an eight-goal polo player. Biography He was born in Bisby Lake, New York to Marie L. Stokes and Albert Carlton Bostwick. His grandfather, Jabez A. Bostwick, was a founder and treasurer of the Standard Oil Company of New York and a partner of John D. Rockefeller. His grandmother, Helen C. Bostwick, left upon her death in April 1920 a sum of $1,156,818 to him and similar amounts to his siblings.
