Museum Of Aviation (Košice)
The Museum of Aviation (''Múzeum letectva Košice'') is a transport and military history museum in Košice, Slovakia. It is a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice and is located near the Košice International Airport, on the outskirts of the city. It opened on August 23, 2002. After a general reconstruction and enlargement period that lasted since 2004, the museum reopened on September 2, 2006. Collections and exhibits Its collections include a wide variety of heavier-than-air aircraft, aircraft engines and other technical accessories from various eras of aviation, with a focus on Slovak and European aviation history. Aircraft are displayed both indoors and in open-air displays on the museum's grounds. As of 2014, the collections include over 60 types of civilian and military aircraft from various periods and countries of origin, sans larger airliners. Slovak Air Force
The Slovak Air Force, known since 2002 as the Air Force of the Armed Forces of the Slovak Republic ( sk, Vzdušné sily Ozbrojených síl Slovenskej republiky), is the aviation and air defense branch of the Slovak Armed Forces. Operating 23 aircraft and 10 helicopters from three air bases : Malacky–Kuchyňa, Sliač, Prešov. It succeeded the Czechoslovak Air Force together with the Czech Air Force in 1993. Bratislava Transport Museum
Bratislava Transport Museum (''Múzeum dopravy Bratislava'') is a transport museum in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is a branch of the Slovak Technical Museum in Košice, is situated on the site of the first steam-railway station in Bratislava on Šancová Street, near the current main railway station in central Bratislava. It opened on June 24, 1999. Collections and exhibits The two exhibition halls of the museum include just under 100 motorcars, 25 historical motorcycles and numerous technical accessories. Vehicles in the collection date from the inter-war period up to the 1970s. These include prototypes, military and government vehicles. A model aircraft is a small unmanned aircraft. Many are replicas of real aircraft. Model aircraft are divided into two basic groups: flying and non-flying. Non-flying models are also termed static, display, or shelf models. Aircraft manufacturers and researchers make wind tunnel models for testing aerodynamic properties, for basic research, or for the development of new designs. Sometimes only part of the aircraft is modelled. The Sukhoi Su-15 (NATO reporting name: Flagon) is a twinjet supersonic interceptor aircraft developed by the Soviet Union. It entered service in 1965 and remained one of the front-line designs into the 1990s. The Su-15 was designed to replace the Sukhoi Su-11 and Sukhoi Su-9, which were becoming obsolete as NATO introduced newer and more capable strategic bombers. Development Recognizing the limitations of the earlier Su-9 and Su-11 in intercepting the new Boeing B-52 Stratofortress, particularly in terms of radar and aircraft performance, the Sukhoi OKB quickly began the development of a heavily revised and more capable aircraft.
