Museum Jan
Museum Jan (until January 2020 Museum Jan van der Togt) is a modern visual art museum in Amstelveen, near Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It was established by 1991 by Jan van der Togt, an industrialist who was also the founder of the company Tomado who was a collector of contemporary art. He wanted his collection to remain together and formed a foundation for this. Besides a permanent collection of paintings and sculptures, the museum has an important collection of modern glass art such as Libenský & Brychtová, Maria Lugosi and Bruno Pedrosa. They include masterpieces of avant-garde Czech glass artists such as Vaclav Cigler and Ales Vasicek. Amstelveen
Amstelveen () is a municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands with a population of 92.353 as of 2022. It is a suburban part of the Amsterdam metropolitan area. The municipality of Amstelveen consists of the historical villages of Bovenkerk and Nes aan de Amstel. In addition, as well as Downtown Amstelveen (Dutch: ''Amstelveen stadshart''), the following neighbourhoods have been recently built: Westwijk, Bankras-Kostverloren, Groenelaan, Waardhuizen, Middenhoven, Randwijk, Elsrijk and Keizer Karelpark. The name comes from the Amstel, a local river (as does the name Amsterdam) and , meaning fen, peat, or moor. Karel Appel
Christiaan Karel Appel (; 25 April 1921 – 3 May 2006) was a Dutch painter, sculptor, and poet. He started painting at the age of fourteen and studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam in the 1940s. He was one of the founders of the avant-garde movement CoBrA in 1948. He was also an avid sculptor and has had works featured in MoMA and other museums worldwide. Childhood Christiaan Karel Appel was born on 25 April 1921 in his parents' house at Dapperstraat 7 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. As a child he was often called 'Kik'. On the ground floor his father, Jan Appel, had a barbershop. His mother, born Johanna Chevalier, was a descendant of French Huguenots. Karel Appel had three brothers. At fourteen, Appel produced his first real painting on canvas, a still life of a fruit basket. For his fifteenth birthday, his wealthy uncle Karel Chevalier gave him a paint set and an easel. Anton Heyboer
Anton Heyboer (; 9 February 1924 – 9 April 2005) was a Dutch painter and printmaker. Ans (Anna Maria) Wortel (18 October 1929, in Alkmaar, Netherlands4 December 1996, in Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands) was a Dutch painter, poet and writer. She made gouaches and oil paintings, aquarelles, drawings, collages, lithographs, etchings, sculptures and glass sculptures. She was an autodidact and won the first prize at the biennale of Paris in 1963. She was one of the leading female artists of postwar Dutch modern art.
