Museu Comarcal De La Garrotxa
The Museu de la Garrotxa (Regional Museum of Garrotxa) is a museum in Olot, Catalonia, Spain. It is associated with the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya in Barcelona; the other institutions in this association are the Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer ( Vilanova i la Geltrú) and the Cau Ferrat ( Sitges). The museum is housed in an 18th-century neoclassical building designed by architect Ventura Rodríguez. The museum opened for the first time to the public in 1905 as the Museu Biblioteca de Olot. The museum developed over time, adding new collections and changing its exhibition spaces; such as the addition of nativity scenes in 1956, the Blay Hall in 1966, and the Josep Clarà Hall in 1977. Olot
Olot () is the capital city of the ''comarca'' of Garrotxa, in the Province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. The city is known for its natural landscape, including four volcanoes scattered around the city center. The municipality is part of the Zona Volcànica de la Garrotxa Natural Park. Olot is also well known for its cultural activity, with historical art movements like Olot school or factories of religious imagery, which contributed to the location in the city of the main Design and Arts & Crafts school of the province of Girona, the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny d'Olot. Miquel Blay
Miguel Blay y Fàbregas (in Catalan, ''Miquel Blay i Fàbregas'') (8 October 1866, Olot - 22 January 1936, Madrid) was a Spanish sculptor. Biography Blay was born in the city of Olot, in the province of Girona to a humble family. He begins his formal education in the Municipal Drawing School and the studio of El Arte Cristiano where he was a disciple of Josep Berga i Boix and the painter Joaquim Vayreda. In the studio of El Arte Cristiano he drew and painted various Christian pieces. At the end of 1888, he receives a grant from the provincial government of Girona to study in Paris. In Paris he studied at Ecole des beaux-arts and at the Academie Julian under the sculptor Henri Chapu, whom Blay credits to having a large influence on his sculpture. Blay leaves Paris for a few months to study in Rome and return to Olot. Josep Clarà
Josep Clarà i Ayats (16 December 1878 – 4 November 1958) was a Spanish sculptor. His work was part of the sculpture event in the art competition at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Biography Clarà was born in Olot, Girona, Catalonia (Spain) in 1878. He attended the Olot School of Drawing (''Escola de Dibuix d'Olot'') with professor Josep Berga i Boix (1837–1914). During Clarà's time at the school, Joaquim Vayreda (1843–1894) highly praised one of Clarà's drawings; this greatly encouraged Clarà's artistic endeavors and was one of his happiest childhood memories. In 1897, Clarà enrolled in the School of Fine Arts in Toulouse, France. He moved to Paris in 1890, where he met Auguste Rodin, which caused him to pursue sculpture. Ramon Casas i Carbó (; 4 January 1866 – 29 February 1932) was a Catalan artist. Living through a turbulent time in the history of his native Barcelona, he was known as a portraitist, sketching and painting the intellectual, economic, and political elite of Barcelona, Paris, Madrid, and beyond. He was also known for his paintings of crowd scenes ranging from the audience at a bullfight to the assembly for an execution to rioters in the Barcelona streets (El garrot).
