National Museum of Visual Arts (Uruguay) ( es, Museo Nacional de Artes Visuales) a museum in Parque Rodó, Montevideo, Uruguay. It was inaugurated on December 10, 1911. This museum has the largest collection of Uruguayan artworks. Among them are works by Olga Piria, Rafael Barradas, Joaquín Torres García, José Cúneo, Carlos Federico Sáez, Pedro Figari, Juan Manuel Blanes and artist Pablo Serrano Pablo Serrano Aguilar, (8 March 1908, Crivillén, Teruel – 26 November 1985, Madrid) was a Spanish abstract sculptor. Parque Rodó
Parque Rodó is both a ''barrio'' (neighbourhood or district) of Montevideo, Uruguay and a park which lies mostly outside the limits of the barrio itself and belongs to Punta Carretas. The name "Rodó" has been given in memory of José Enrique Rodó, an important Uruguayan writer whose monument is in the southern side of the main park. Juan Manuel Blanes
Juan Manuel Blanes (June 8, 1830 – April 15, 1901) was a noted Uruguayan painter of the Realist school. Life and work Blanes was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1830. He was raised by his mother, with whom he relocated to the countryside in his early teens. Blanes took an interest in drawing at this point, and shortly afterwards, was hired as an illustrator for a Montevideo news daily, ''El Defensor de la Independencia Americana''. José Luis Zorrilla De San Martín
José Luis Zorrilla de San Martín (5 September 1891 – 24 May 1975) was a Uruguayan sculptor and Painting, painter. One of the pivotal sculptors from Uruguay, his most significant impact was through the monuments he created in the capital city of Montevideo. His style displayed elements of aesthetic baroque sculpture, baroque incorporated with modern sculpture. Biography Early life Born in Madrid in 1891, he was the son of the writer Juan Zorrilla de San Martín, who served in the court of Alfonso XIII as Ambassador of Uruguay. Pablo Serrano Aguilar, (8 March 1908, Crivillén, Teruel – 26 November 1985, Madrid) was a Spanish abstract sculptor. Personal life 1920–1925. Pedro Figari (June 29, 1861 – July 24, 1938) was a Uruguayan painter, lawyer, writer, and politician. Although he did not begin the practice until his later years, he is best known as an early modernist painter who emphasized capturing the everyday aspects of life in his work. In most of his pieces, he attempts to capture the essence of his home by painting local customs that he had observed in his childhood. Figari painted primarily from memory, a technique that gives his work a far more personal feeling. Carlos Federico Sáez
Carlos Federico Sáez (14 November 1878, Mercedes, Uruguay, Mercedes – 4 January 1901, Montevideo) was an artist from Uruguay. Biography He was born into a wealthy family in the city of Mercedes in western Uruguay. By the age of 13 he was producing outstanding paintings and drawings. In 1891 he moved to Montevideo to study with the painter Juan Franzi. The well-known painter Juan Manuel Blanes recommended that Sáez go to study in Italy, which was a fairly common practice for wealthy young artists in Uruguay at that time. The national government provided him with an art scholarship at just 14 years of age. He spent the next seven years in Rome. He entered the Academy of Fine Arts in 1893, but was interested in new artistic movements such as the Macchiaioli and Art Nouveau.
