Muru (film)
''Muru'' is a 2022 New Zealand action-drama film about the 2007 New Zealand police raids of the Ngāi Tūhoe community of Rūātoki. Written and directed by Tearepa Kahi, the film stars Cliff Curtis, Jay Ryan and Manu Bennett. The film was released as the opening night film of the New Zealand International Film Festival on 28 July 2022. Plot Community Sergeant 'Taffy' Tawharau has recently returned home to the community of Rūātoki to live with his elderly father. In addition to his policing duties alongside fellow police officer Blake, Taffy drives the local school bus. The Ngāi Tūhoe activist Tame Iti, who is a well known local community figure, runs a series of boot camps called Camp Rama (fire light) in the forests of Te Urewera valley. Tearepa Kahi
Tearepa Kahi (born 16 March 1994), also known as Te Arepa Kahi, is a New Zealand film director and former actor of Ngāti Paoa and Waikato Tainui descent. Kahi is best known for the 2013 drama '' Mt. Zion'' starring Stan Walker, and the Pātea Māori Club documentary '' Poi E: The Story of a Song'' (2016). Biography Kahi grew up in Christchurch, and is of Ngāti Paoa and Waikato Tainui descent. Kahi's father was a musician who toured with Billy TK. As a teenager, he spent two years as a part of a theatre troupe run by actor Jim Moriarty. Moving to his grandmother's house in Pukekohe, Kahi studied history and Māori at the University of Auckland. From 1999 to 2002, Kahi acted in minor roles on television shows including ''Shortland Street'', ''Mataku'' and ''Aroha – Irikura'', and in the Don Selwyn film ''The Maori Merchant of Venice'' (2002). Troy Kingi
Troy Kingi (born 1984) is a New Zealand musician and actor from Northland, first receiving media attention when he appeared in the 2013 film '' Mt. Zion''. Kingi is a multi-instrumentalist, is known for his 10/10/10 project: the plan to release 10 albums in 10 genres across 10 years. Biography Troy Kingi was born in 1984 in Rotorua, and was raised in Rotorua, Te Kaha and Kerikeri. Kingi is of Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi and Te Whānau-ā-Apanui descent. He began learning guitar at Te Aute College in Hawke's Bay, and formed his first band, Toll House, at Kerikeri High School. Toll House entered the Smokefreerockquest, winning the regional Northland competition. Since the early 2000s, Kingi has lived in Kerikeri. 27th Busan International Film Festival
The 27th Busan International Film Festival () was held from October 5 at the Busan Cinema Center in Busan, South Korea till October 14. This year, the festival restarted events and program sections which were not conducted due to COVID-19 for last 2 years. The 2022 Toronto International Film Festival, the 47th event in the Toronto International Film Festival series, is scheduled to be held from September 8 to 18, 2022. Waitangi Day ( mi, Te Rā o Waitangi), the national day of New Zealand, marks the anniversary of the initial signing – on 6 February 1840 – of the Treaty of Waitangi, which is regarded as the founding document of the nation. The first Waitangi Day was not celebrated until 1934, and it was made a national public holiday in 1974. Stan Walker (born 23 October 1990) is an Australian-born New Zealand singer, actor, and television personality. In 2009, Walker was the winner of the seventh and last season of '' Australian Idol''. "Matemateāone" (English: "Deep Affection") is a song by New Zealand musician Stan Walker. A bilingual ballad sung primarily in Māori language, the song was released as a single a week before Walker's first album sung in Māori, ''Te Arohanui''. A love ballad, the song's music video celebrates his marriage to his partner Lou Tyson. The song debuted at number 14 on the New Zealand Artist Singles chart and number 8 on the Hot Singles chart. By the end of 2021, it was the 5th most successful Te Reo Māori song of the year in New Zealand. NZ On Screen is a state-funded online promotional showcase of New Zealand television and film. Funded by NZ On Air, it provides free worldwide access to NZ-produced television, film and music videos. Content is streamed and the webpages provide authoritative background information. The site was launched in October 2008 and is updated constantly. It provides titles in full or as excerpts, with background notes, photographs and profiles of key cast and crew.
