John Murton (theologian)
John Murton (1585 – c. 1626), also known as John Morton, was a co-founder of the Baptist faith in Great Britain. John Murton had been a furrier by trade in Gainsborough-on-Trent and was a member of the 1607 Gainsborough Congregation that relocated to Amsterdam. Murton had been a close disciple of John Smyth while in Holland and eventually Murton returned to London with Thomas Helwys and his church. Murton possibly spent time in prison with Helwys before his death, and then became the Elder of the congregation. Murton continued Helwys' traditions until 1624 when he had a falling out with the congregation. Lionel Murton
William Lionel Murton (2 June 1915 – 26 September 2006) was an English character actor. Born in Wandsworth, London, he was resident at Little Orchard, Weston Road, Upton Grey, Basingstoke, Hampshire, England, before his death at age 91. He was cremated at Basingstoke Crematorium on 6 October 2006. He is commemorated with his wife, Anita, in Upton Grey Churchyard, Grave 1 E-3. Having grown up in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, he most often played Americans and Canadians in films and in various television series, from the late 1940s. He also appeared in episodes of several TV series, including ''The Persuaders!'' and ''Danger Man'' and was a regular cast member of the ''Dickie Henderson Show'', playing Dickie's friend Jack. Matt Murton
Matthew Henry Murton (born October 3, 1981) is an American former professional baseball outfielder. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago Cubs, Oakland Athletics, and Colorado Rockies. Murton also played in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) for the Hanshin Tigers. Baseball career Amateur In 2001 and 2002, Murton played collegiate summer baseball for the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). Murton led the Gatemen to the league title in both seasons, being named the league's MVP in 2001, and in 2002 batting .400 and winning the league's all-star home run derby. He was inducted into the CCBL Hall of Fame in 2008. Boston Red Sox Murton was drafted out of Georgia Tech baseball in the supplemental first round of the 2003 MLB draft by the Boston Red Sox. Oscar Murton
Henry Oscar Murton, Baron Murton of Lindisfarne (8 May 1914 – 5 July 2009) was a British Conservative Party politician. Career Murton was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and educated at Uppingham School. He joined the Territorial Army with a commission in the Northumberland Fusiliers in 1934. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1937 and to Captain in 1939. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the General Staff from 1942 to 1946. He later became a managing director of department stores. Murton was Member of Parliament for Poole from 1964 to 1979, preceding John Ward. Murton was a government whip under Edward Heath and later a Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons from 1973 to 1979. Phillip "Phil" Murton (born 29 September 1973) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Australian Football League (AFL). A winger from Surrey Hills, Murton won the Hawthorn reserves best and fairest award in 1992 and also made four senior appearances that year. In a pre-season practice match against Essendon in 1993, Murton broke his left leg and spent the entire season on the sidelines. He played in the opening three rounds of the 1994 AFL season but they were his final appearances for Hawthorn.
