Murray River National Park is a protected area in South Australia located between and north east of the Adelaide city centre, lying along the Murray River. The national park is classified as an IUCN Category VI protected area. the national park comprises more than , and includes a vast network of Murray River wetlands and floodplains. Murray Valley National Park is a national park in the Riverina region of New South Wales, Australia. The national park consists of . The park consists of several former state forests and together with the Barmah National Park on the Victorian side of the Murray River comprises the largest stand of Red river gum forest in Australia. The park was established in July 2010 and is administered by the National Parks and Wildlife Service. Loxton, South Australia
Loxton is a town on the south bank of the River Murray in the Riverland region of South Australia. It is located on the lands of the Erawirung people who occupied the area before European colonisation. At the 2016 census, Loxton had a population of 4,568. It is a service town for the surrounding districts. Loxton's primary productions are agriculture & horticulture. Citrus fruit, wine grapes, almond and stone fruit trees are prevalent. Loxton is also the main town for the northern part of the Murray Mallee which is a dryland farming and grain cropping area. Loxton High School provides secondary education for the area. Riverland Mallee Important Bird Area
The Riverland Mallee Important Bird Area comprises a tract of mallee habitat and riverine woodland extending from near Waikerie in the Riverland region in eastern South Australia north-eastwards into south-western New South Wales. Description The extent of the Important Bird Area (IBA) in South Australia includes the Riverland Biosphere Reserve, pastoral leases, privately held conservation reserves such the Gluepot Reserve and protected areas declared by statute. In New South Wales it includes Scotia Sanctuary as well as several areas of uncleared native vegetation. Wetlands within the extent of the IBA are Lake Merreti, Hart Lagoon and Stockyard Plains. Riverland Biosphere Reserve
The Riverland Biosphere Reserve, formerly the Bookmark Biosphere Reserve, is a area of land in eastern South Australia, adjoining the states of New South Wales and Victoria. It is one of 14 biosphere reserves in Australia and is part of the World Network of Biosphere Reserves, being officially recognized and listed by UNESCO in 1977. Description The reserve is composed of several mainly contiguous properties that, although having different ownerships and different management purposes, have the joint aim of identifying approaches to ecologically sustainable development in a low-productivity landscape with many shared land-management problems. It lies in the Murray Mallee and the Riverland with the native vegetation predominantly mallee woodland and shrubland, but also including wetlands and riverine communities along the Murray River. Kingston On Murray (formerly Thurk and Kingston O.M.) is a town on the south bank of the Murray River in the Riverland region of South Australia. Its name is ultimately derived from Charles Kingston who was Premier of South Australia from 1893 to 1899. At the 2006 census, the town had a population of 257. History The town was surveyed in January 1915 and originally proclaimed as ''Thurk'' on 21 November 1918. Its size was reduced on 19 July 1934 and again on 13 July 1939. The name was derived from Thurk Homestead where the word ''Thurk'' is itself derived from an aboriginal word ''tharko'' that means ''the mouth''.
