Murder Is My Hobby
''Murder Is My Hobby'' (also titled ''Mystery is My Hobby'') is an American radio mystery program that was broadcast on Mutual in 1945–1946. The 30-minute program debuted on October 14, 1945, and ended on July 14, 1946. It was sponsored by Mendaco. Before ''Murder Is My Hobby'' was broadcast nationwide, it was carried on six Don Lee Pacific stations, sponsored by Cystex, beginning in April 1945. Glenn Langan portrayed Barton Drake, a police inspector and the author of the book ''Mystery Is My Hobby''. Drake combined his professions by collecting material for stories while he solved crimes. Rod O'Connor was the announcer, and Richard Wilkinson was the writer. The program was revised and retitled ''Mystery Is My Hobb''y. It still featured Drake, but he was a "wealthy mystery writer who works with the police". Episodes of the program were presented as cases from the book ''Mystery Is My Hobby''. Glenn Langan
Glenn Langan (July 8, 1917 – January 26, 1991) was an American character actor on stage and films. Early years Born in Denver, Colorado, Langan was the son of Thomas Langan and Kate Quinn Langan. He attended schools there. His early training in acting came in Denver, where he was stage manager at Elitch's Gardens, handling various behind-the-scenes duties. Langan went to New York, washing dishes in a cafeteria and taking other jobs while he sought acting jobs by visiting producers' offices. Fainting on a street resulted in a stay in Polyclinic Hospital for treatment of malnutrition. Career Langan made his Broadway debut in ''Glamour Preferred'' (1940). The Mutual Broadcasting System (commonly referred to simply as Mutual; sometimes referred to as MBS, Mutual Radio or the Mutual Radio Network) was an American commercial radio network in operation from 1934 to 1999. Don Lee Network
The Don Lee Network, sometimes called the Don Lee Broadcasting System was an American regional network of radio stations in the old-time radio era. Origin Don Lee made a fortune as the exclusive West Coast distributor of Cadillac automobiles. He expanded into broadcasting by purchasing radio stations KFRC in San Francisco in 1926 and KHJ in Los Angeles in 1927. The stations were connected by telephone circuits and in December 1928 the Don Lee Broadcasting System was formed. Within a month, KMJ in Fresno, California; KWG in Stockton, California; and KFBK in Sacramento, California, had joined the network. By 1938, 28 stations were affiliated with the Don Lee network. Lee died in 1934, leaving his son, Thomas S. Lee, to oversee the network's operation. Rod O'Connor (announcer)
Roderic George "Rod" O'Connor Sr. (January 18, 1914 – June 5, 1964) was an American radio and television announcer and occasional actor during the early years of television's golden age. O'Connor built a name for himself as the announcer for both Don McNeill's '' Breakfast Club'' and ''The First Nighter Program'' at WGN Radio in Chicago. He would leave Chicago for New York and after that, World War II. It was while serving in the army that O'Connor met comedian Red Skelton. The two became good friends and upon arrival back into the United States, Skelton offered O'Connor an announcing gig on his '' Raleigh Cigarette Program'' in 1945. O'Connor also stayed on when Skelton went to television with ''The Red Skelton Show''.
