Walter Scott Murch (born July 12, 1943) is an American film editor, director, writer and sound designer. With a career stretching back to 1969, including work on ''THX 1138'', ''Apocalypse Now'', '' The Godfather I'', '' II'', and '' III'', ''American Graffiti'', ''The Conversation'', ''Ghost'' and ''The English Patient'', with three Academy Award wins (from nine nominations: six for picture editing and three for sound mixing), he has been referred to by Roger Ebert as "the most respected film editor and sound designer in the modern cinema." Anna Valentina Murch (7 December 1948 – 26 March 2014) was a British artist who was based in San Francisco. She was known for her award-winning public art installations. Early life and education Anna Valentina Murch was born in Dumbarton, Scotland, as the only child of Norman Robbins Murch and Valentina Gordikova Murch. Her father, a naval commander, established a charity for women and children following his retirement. Murch's mother, originally from St. Petersburg, met her husband in Shanghai during World War II. Subsequently, Murch's mother became an actress in London and played the role of Annushka in a film adaptation of ''Anna Karenina'' (1948), which was released in the same year as Murch's birth. Murch was raised in London. She attended Croydon College of Art and earned degrees from the University of Leicester and the Royal College of Art in London (1973). Arthur James Murch (8 July 1902, Croydon (Sydney) – 3 September 1989, Avalon (Sydney)) was an Australian artist who won the Archibald Prize in 1949 with a portrait of Bonar Dunlop. Dunlop was a New Zealand artist sculptor and illustrator. Biography Antonio Dattilo-Rubbo introduced him to the French Post-Impressionists, Cézanne and Seurat. His style later became more Cubist. In 1924, he studied with Rayner Hoff at East Sydney Technical College. Murch spent time training in London at the Chelsea Polytechnic and at Académie Julian, Paris and visiting Italy after winning the 1925 Society of Artists' Scholarship. Jordan Murch (born 15 September 1989) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Petershill in the SJFA West Region Premiership. He has previously played in the Scottish Football League First Division for Clyde. Career Murch signed a YTS contract with Clyde in July 2007, and signed his first professional contract in May 2008. He made his professional debut in November 2008 against Ross County, when he came on as a substitute in a 3–0 defeat. He joined Stranraer on loan until the end of the season in January 2009 along with Stephen Connolly. However, the loan was terminated early and he returned to Clyde after only two appearances. Murch was released by Clyde in June 2009 along with the rest of the out of contract players, due to the club's financial position. James Clifford Thomas Murch (born 8 August 1975) is a former Australian cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and right-arm medium-fast bowler who played for Hertfordshire.
