Munno Para Railway Station
Munno Para railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated in the northern Adelaide suburb of Munno Para, it is located from Adelaide station. History Munno Para station opened in 1978. Originally consisting of two 95 metre side platforms, in March 2012, two new side platforms capable of accommodating six carriages were built 60 metres south of the original station. This was in connection with the plans to electrify the line, which was completed in early 2022 and expected to reopen on April 30. The platforms are connected by an overpass with lifts. The station was the site of a fatal collision on 5 February 2019 where a man from Smithfield Plains who was illegally on the tracks was struck by a train and died at the scene. Munno Para, South Australia
Munno Para is a northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It is located in the City of Playford. In the local Kaurna dialect, Munno Para means ''golden wattle creek''. The name refers to either the Gawler River (which starts at the confluence of the South Para River and North Para River) or the Little Para River from which the much larger cadastral Hundred of Munno Para derives its name. History Until 1997, Munno Para was part of the City of Munno Para, formerly the district councils of Munno Para East and Munno Para West which were established in 1853 and 1854 on land bounded by the cadastral Hundred of Munno Para. The older part of the suburb itself began from a subdivision in 1955 and the suburb was named in 1978. Until the locality was urbanised from 1955, Munno Para was part of the farming district north of the township of Smithfield. Adelaide Metro is the public transport system of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It is an intermodal system offering an integrated network of bus, tram, and train service throughout the metropolitan area. The network has an annual patronage of 79.9 million, of which 51 million journeys are by bus, 15.6 million by train, and 9.4 million by tram. The system has evolved heavily over the past fifteen years, and patronage increased dramatically during the 2014–15 period, a 5.5 percent increase on the 2013 figures due to electrification of frequented lines. Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. It has nine platforms, all using broad gauge track. It is located on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. Side Platform
A side platform (also known as a marginal platform or a single-face platform) is a platform positioned to the side of one or more railway tracks or guideways at a railway station, tram stop, or transitway. A station having dual side platforms, one for each direction of travel, is the basic design used for double-track railway lines (as opposed to, for instance, the island platform where a single platform lies between the tracks). Side platforms may result in a wider overall footprint for the station compared with an island platform where a single width of platform can be shared by riders using either track. Gawler Central Railway Station
Gawler Central railway station is the terminus station of the Gawler line. Situated in the South Australian town of Gawler, it is from Adelaide station. History The station opened in May 1911 as Willaston, being renamed North Gawler in September 1911, and Gawler Central on 12 February 1984. In the early 1920s the South Australian Railways decided to extend suburban service to all stations within a radius of Adelaide station. North Gawler, which is located 26 miles 14 chains from Adelaide, was not included. From May 1911 until the 19th of June 1989 Willaston, Gawler North and eventually Gawler Central station had a station manager or staff member on site to sell tickets to passengers on the rail network. Elizabeth railway station is located on the Gawler line. Situated on the border of the northern Adelaide suburbs of Elizabeth and Edinburgh, it is from Adelaide station. History The township of Elizabeth was established in 1955, with Elizabeth South railway station the first to be constructed in the area. Elizabeth station opened on June 27 1960 in anticipation of increased demand from the nearby town centre and shopping district opening later in 1960. The station was first rebuilt in 1999 with one island platform and shelter, which was accessible by an underground pedestrian subway.
