Munkvoll Station (''Munkvoll stasjon'') is a tram station on Gråkallbanen. It is part of the Trondheim Tramway in Trondheim, Norway. The station was built in 1924 as the terminus for the tramway. In addition to housing the Trondheim Tramway Museum, it features the offices and depot for the tram operator, Boreal Bane Boreal Bane AS, trading, and formerly known as, AS Gråkallbanen, is a Norwegian company that operates the remaining part of the Trondheim Tramway, Norway. Byåsen
Byåsen is a large neighborhood area in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It constitutes a large part of the city in the borough of Midtbyen. It encompasses a number of areas southwest of the main city centre. This includes all areas on the west side of the river Nidelva and north of Granåsen. This is mainly a residential area, with 32,136 residents as of January 1, 2003. Gråkallbanen tram line connects Byåsen to the city centre along with a number of bus routes (8, 5, and 19) as well as night time services by bus and tram in the weekends. The name Byåsen can be translated into "city hill", which describes its elevated position, overlooking the rest of Trondheim. The view of Trondheim can be seen from Utsikten (meaning "the view") around which the wealthier residents of Byåsen live. Dragvoll
Dragvoll is a neighborhood in the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The neighborhood is located in the borough of Lerkendal. The area hosts the campus for the faculties of social sciences and humanities of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Until the 1996 creation of NTNU, it was the social sciences and humanities campus of the Norwegian College of General Sciences. History Farm The site was traditionally a farm. The historic name of Dragvoll has varied, variously being written Draghaull (1519), Dragouldt (1570), Drauold (1621), Dragwoll (1667) and Dragvoll (1723). The first part is derived from the site being located on a creek, Stokkbekken, with the latter being a voll. The earliest records of the farm have it registered with the king owning half and the pastor of Our Lady's Church with the other half. Trondheim Tramway
The Trondheim Tramway in Trondheim, Norway, is the world's most northerly tramway system, following the closure and dismantling of the Arkhangelsk tramways in Russia. It consists of one 8.8-km-long line, the Gråkallen Line, running from St. Olav's Gate in the city centre through Byåsen to Lian Station in Bymarka. Background Numbered Line 1, it is operated by Boreal Bane, a subsidiary of Boreal Norge and is often simply called the Gråkallen Line (Gråkallbanen). Gråkallbanen operates five tram cars, out of a total rolling stock of nine articulated tram cars built by Linke-Hofmann-Busch in 1984. Trondheim Tramway Museum
Trondheim Tramway Museum (''Sporveismuseet i Trondheim'') is a tram museum located in Trondheim, Norway. The museum offers in addition to a display of the tramway history of Trondheim also heritage trips with old trams on the sole remains of the tramway in Trondheim, Gråkallbanen. The museum has many heritage trams on display, several in working condition. The museum society was founded in 1979 and moved to its present location at the tramway depot at Munkvoll Station after the Trondheim Tramway was closed in 1988. The museum was opened in 1995, but is only open in the summer. Boreal Bane
Boreal Bane AS, trading, and formerly known as, AS Gråkallbanen, is a Norwegian company that operates the remaining part of the Trondheim Tramway, Norway. It operates six trams on the Gråkall Line, that connects the city centre to parts of the suburb of Byåsen, and the recreational area at Lian. It has 800,000 annual passengers, and operates as Line 1. The trams operate each 15 minutes during the day, and each 30 minutes in the evenings and during the weekends. The company took over the last remaining part of the tramway in 1990, after the former operator Trondheim Trafikkselskap had closed the Gråkall and Lade Line in 1988. The company took over the trams and the track, and claimed it could operate without municipal subsidies. Munkvoll Depot
Munkvoll Depot is the only remaining depot of the Trondheim Tramway, Norway. The depot was first built in 1924 for Graakalbanen. Located beside the transformer station, It was located at Munkvoll, the then terminus of the Gråkallen Line. In 1953, a second hangar-style depot building was built on the other side of the track. This was razed in 1983 to make way for the current building.
