Munkebo Municipality
Until 1 January 2007 Munkebo municipality was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in former Funen County on the northeast coast of the island of Funen in central Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 19 km2, and had a total population of 5,720 (2005). Its last mayor was Palle Hansborg-Sørensen, a member of the Social Democrats (Denmark) (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main city and the site of its municipal council was the town of Munkebo. The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a ("Municipality Reform") from Munkebo Parish (Bjerge Herred). Munkebo municipality ceased to exist as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It was merged with Kerteminde and Langeskov municipalities to form an enlarged Kerteminde municipality. This created a municipality with an area of 203 km2 and a total population of 23,071 (2005). Danish Language
Danish (; , ) is a North Germanic language spoken by about six million people, principally in and around Denmark. Communities of Danish speakers are also found in Greenland, the Faroe Islands, and the northern German region of Southern Schleswig, where it has minority language status. Minor Danish-speaking communities are also found in Norway, Sweden, the United States, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina. Funen County
Funen County ( da, Fyns Amt) is a former county (Danish: ''amt'') in central Denmark, comprising the islands of Funen, Langeland, Tåsinge, Ærø, and approximately 90 other islands, of which only 25 are inhabited. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising the former counties of Odense and Svendborg. The county was abolished from 1 January 2007, when it merged into Region of Southern Denmark (''Region Syddanmark''). The county employed around 20,000 people working in more than 160 institutions located all over Funen. Insignia Funen County's coat of arms showed three connected gold hop leaves on a field of red, representing three former counties of Odense, Svendborg and Assens. Funen
Funen ( da, Fyn, ), with an area of , is the third-largest island of Denmark, after Zealand and Vendsyssel-Thy. It is the 165th-largest island in the world. It is located in the central part of the country and has a population of 469,947 as of 2020. Funen's main city is Odense, which is connected to the sea by a seldom-used canal. The city's shipyard, Odense Steel Shipyard, has been relocated outside Odense proper. Funen belongs administratively to the Region of Southern Denmark. From 1970 to 2006 the island formed the biggest part of Funen County, which also included the islands of Langeland, Ærø, Tåsinge, and a number of smaller islands. Social Democrats (Denmark)
The Social Democrats ( da, Socialdemokraterne, ) is a social democratic political party in Denmark. A member of the Party of European Socialists (PES), the Social Democrats have 50 out of 179 members of the Danish parliament (following the latest Danish general election held in 2022), Folketing, and three out of fourteen MEPs elected from Denmark.
