The Municipality of Žalec (; sl, Občina Žalec) is a municipality in Slovenia in the traditional region of Styria. The seat of the municipality is the town of Žalec. The municipality was established in its current form on 7 August 1998, when the former larger municipality of Žalec was divided into six smaller municipalities. Pongrac
Pongrac () is a settlement in the Municipality of Žalec in east-central Slovenia. It lies in the hills south of Žalec. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Savinja Statistical Region. Name The name of the settlement was changed from ''Sveti Pongrac'' (literally, ' Saint Pancras') to ''Pongrac'' (literally, 'Pancras') in 1955. The name was changed on the basis of the 1948 Law on Names of Settlements and Designations of Squares, Streets, and Buildings as part of efforts by Slovenia's postwar communist government to remove religious elements from toponyms. Migojnice () is a village on the right bank of the Savinja River in the Municipality of Žalec in east-central Slovenia. The area is part of the traditional region of Styria. The municipality is now included in the Savinja Statistical Region. Name The village was attested in written sources in 1265–67 as ''Makoyn'', and in 1763–87 as ''Megoiniz''. The origin of the name is unclear, but it may be derived from ''*Maligojnice'' (based on the personal name ''*Maligojь'') with syncope of the second syllable (cf. ''Magozd'' < ''*Mal(i) gozd''). If so, the name would originally mean 'place where Maligojь's people live'.
