The Municipality of Louise is a rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. History It was created on January 1, 2015 via the amalgamation of the RM of Louise, the Town of Pilot Mound and the Village of Crystal City. It was formed as a requirement of ''The Municipal Amalgamations Act'', which required that municipalities with a population less than 1,000 amalgamate with one or more neighbouring municipalities by 2015. The Government of Manitoba initiated these amalgamations in order for municipalities to meet the 1997 minimum population requirement of 1,000 to incorporate a municipality. A rural municipality (RM) is a type of incorporated municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba. Under the province's ''Municipal Act'' of 1997, an area must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a density of less than to incorporate as a rural municipality. Sarles–Crystal City Border Crossing
The Sarles–Crystal City Border Crossing connects the towns of Sarles, North Dakota and Crystal City, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. North Dakota Highway 20 on the American side joins Manitoba Highway 34 on the Canadian side. Canadian side In 1897, E.M. Kerr was the inaugural customs officer, such duties having previously been performed by the North-West Mounted Police. In 1899, the status was upgraded to an outport of entry under the administrative oversight of the Port of Winnipeg. The current station was built in 1955. US side In 1961, the US built the Sarles border station in the median of the roadway. In 2012, this facility was replaced with a large modern border station. In 2014, the Sarles Port of Entry processed an average of 10 passenger cars and 3 trucks per day. Towner County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2020 census, the population is 2,162. Its county seat is Cando. It is south of the Canada–US border with Manitoba. History The Dakota Territory legislature created the county on March 8, 1883, with areas partitioned from Cavalier and Rolette counties. It was named for Oscar M. Towner (1842–1897), a businessman and member of the 15th territorial legislature. The county organization was not completed at that time, and the county was attached to Pembina County for judicial and administrative purposes. That lasted until January 24, 1884, when the county organization was effected, and its attachment to Pembina was dissolved. Cavalier County is a county in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is south of the Canada–US border with Manitoba. As of the 2020 census, the population was 3,704. Its county seat is Langdon. The city of Cavalier is in nearby Pembina County. History The Dakota Territory legislature created Cavalier County on January 4, 1873 with territory annexed from Pembina County, but did not organize the county government structure at that time. It was named for Charles Cavileer (or Cavalier) of Pembina, an early settler. The county organization was effected on July 8, 1884. Its boundaries were altered in 1883 and in 1887. Hannah–Snowflake Border Crossing
The Hannah–Snowflake Border Crossing connects the towns of Hannah, North Dakota and Snowflake, Manitoba on the Canada–United States border. It is connected by 91st Avenue NE in Cavalier County, North Dakota on the American side and Provincial Road 242 in the Municipality of Louise, Manitoba on the Canadian side. Both Hannah and Snowflake once were thriving small farm communities, and both rapidly declined in population when their respective railroads were abandoned. The BNSF rail line now terminates in Langdon, North Dakota and Hannah's population has declined from 253 in 1960 to 15 in 2010. The population of Snowflake is now 2.
