The Municipality of Broad Arrow-Paddington was a local government area in Western Australia centred on the mining towns of Broad Arrow and Paddington (now Gudarra). It was established on 23 October 1903 with the amalgamation of the Municipality of Broad Arrow and the Municipality of Paddington, following months of amalgamation discussions between the two councils. Broad Arrow, Western Australia
Broad Arrow is a ghost town in Western Australia, located 38 km north of Kalgoorlie and 633 km east of Perth. It is on the Kalgoorlie to Leonora Road. History Initially called Kurawah, this was where gold was first discovered in 1893, triggering a gold rush in the region north of Kalgoorlie. The Broad Arrow Goldfield was gazetted on 11 November 1896, and in 1897 the municipality of Kurawah was declared. The town derives its name from the markers, in the shape of a broad arrow, left on the ground by a miner, Reison, who left them to direct his friends who were following him to a gold discovery he had made. His mine was also named ''Broad Arrow''. Extensions to the Eastern Goldfields Railway line from Kalgoorlie to Menzies was begun in August 1897, and reached Broad Arrow on 6 November the same year. Gudarra, Western Australia
Gudarra is an abandoned town in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. It is situated between Kalgoorlie and Menzies off the Goldfields Highway. The present-day Paddington Gold Mine is located near the old townsite. Gold was initially discovered in the area in 1892, with the place first called the Sore Foot Rush, as a result of the limping prospectors who arrived on news of the discovery. The name of the town was later changed to Paddington and gazetted using that name on 4 February 1897. By 1911 the Commonwealth government was attempting to remove duplicated town names so the town was renamed and regazetted in 1912 as Gudarra. The town's name is Aboriginal in origin and its meaning is not known. Deep leads were found in 1894, 1898 and 1901 and some of the mines that existed in the area were Paddington Consuls, Mt Corlic, Star of WA, and Pakeha. Municipality Of Broad Arrow
The Municipality of Broad Arrow was a local government area in Western Australia centred on the mining town of Broad Arrow. It was established on 26 February 1897, following local agitation from the Broad Arrow Progress Committee. The first elections were held in April 1897, with the first formal meeting of the council held on 22 April. The municipality was initially based out of council chambers in the Broad Arrow Stock Exchange, but moved to the Mechanics' Institute building in 1900, subsequently known as the municipal hall. The hall was extended in 1903 to include a new library, reading room, town clerk's office, council chambers and fire station, the additions having been largely funded by the state government. The Municipality of Paddington was a local government area of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. The municipality was proclaimed on 17 April 1860 and, with an area of 1.7 square kilometres, included the entire suburb of Paddington and parts of Edgecliff. The council was amalgamated with the City of Sydney to the east with the passing of the '' Local Government (Areas) Act 1948'', although the former council area was transferred in 1968 to the Municipality of Woollahra, transferred to the City of South Sydney in 1989 and was then split in 2003 between the City of Sydney and the Municipality of Woollahra. Broad Arrow Road District
The Broad Arrow Road District was an early form of local government area on the Western Australian goldfields. It was established on 15 December 1899, providing basic local government to the rural areas around the mining town of Broad Arrow, which had already been incorporated as the Municipality of Broad Arrow in 1897. The board's office was located in Broad Arrow township. The town of Paddington separated as the Municipality of Paddington on 14 June 1901 following agitation from disgruntled residents who felt that they were not receiving their fair proportion of board expenditure. It absorbed the Broad Arrow township and re-absorbed Paddington on 12 August 1910, when the amalgamated Municipality of Broad Arrow-Paddington merged into the district.
