The building Erode Municipal Council came into existence in 1872 and was elevated to Special Grade during the year 1980 and upgraded as a Municipal Corporation with effect from the very first of the year 2008. Starting from the earlier administration of the City, this building is the place for council that is being elected. It is a four storeyed building near PS Park in normal Indian style architecture. Erode Municipal Corporation
Erode Corporation is a civic administrative body that governs the City of Erode, India. The Corporation consists of a legislative body, headed by the City Mayor and an executive body headed by the Corporation Commissioner. The Corporation's headquarters is in the Municipal Corporation Building, Erode, near Panneer selvam Park. History Erode Municipal Council came into existence in the year of 1871, covering a mere area of around 8.4 km2. In 1917, Periyar E. V. Panneerselvam Park or P.S. Park is a commercial and business locality in the city of Erode in Tamil Nadu. History In the early 19th century, this locality has celebrated the presence of numerous trees and plantations like a Garden. It was called as Wells Park by the name of ''Wells'' the then Municipal Chairman of Erode Municipal Council. In 1940, it has been renamed as Panneerselvam Park by Periyar E. V. Ramasamy in memory of the Justice Party leader Rao Bahadur Sir A. T. Panneerselvam. For the significance of its name, a small park has been created and maintained by Erode Municipal Corporation near the five road junction in the center of this locality. In February 1971, statue of Arignar Anna has been erected in this place and in September 1971, a full-size statue of Thanthai Periyar has been installed in the presence of himself.
