Munich–Mühldorf Railway
The Munich–Mühldorf railway is a 74 .8 km long main line in the German state of Bavaria, which opened on 1 May 1871. It runs from Munich East station via Markt Schwaben and Dorfen to Mühldorf. The travel time between Munich East and Mühldorf is currently about an hour. The track is one of the 18 bottlenecks with capacity problems identified under the ''Bundesschienenwegeausbaugesetz'' (Federal Railway Infrastructure Development Act) of 1993. In particular the section between Markt Schwaben and Ampfing is one of the busiest single-track lines in Germany. About 3 million tonnes is handled on this single-track, non-electrified route; this is more than one percent of Germany's total rail freight task and in 2015 it will probably be more than two percent. 15 KV AC Railway Electrification
Railway electrification systems using at are used on transport railways in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, and Norway. The high voltage enables high power transmission with the lower frequency reducing the losses of the traction motors that were available at the beginning of the 20th century. Railway electrification in late 20th century tends to use AC systems which has become the preferred standard for new railway electrifications but extensions of the existing networks are not completely unlikely. In particular, the Gotthard Base Tunnel (opened on 1 June 2016) still uses 15 kV, 16.7 Hz electrification. Markt Schwaben–Erding Railway
The Markt Schwaben–Erding railway is a 13.63 km-long branch line in Upper Bavaria in Germany and now part of line S 2 of the Munich S-Bahn. Erding made an unsuccessful bid for the Munich–Mühldorf railway to run through the town; instead it was built a few kilometres south of the town. Other suggested links (to Freising, Passau or Rosenheim) were rejected by the railway board. On 8 March 1869, it was announced that the town would be connected to the railway network by a secondary railway (then called a ''Vizinalbahn'' in Bavaria) from Schwaben (now Markt Schwaben) to Erding. The contract for the construction of this railway was signed on 9 May 1870 by the town of Erding and the Head Office of the Royal Transport Institution (german: Generaldirektion der königlichen Verkehrsanstalten). Ampfing
Ampfing is a municipality in the district of Mühldorf in Bavaria in Germany, and a name of a small town of the same name. History The Battle of Mühldorf was fought on 28 September 1322 between Bavaria and Austria in Ampfing Heath. The Bavarians were led by Louis the Bavarian, while the Austrians were led by his cousin Frederick I of Austria. The battle did not go well for the Austrians; they were defeated, and more than 1000 noblemen from Austria and Salzburg were captured, as was Frederick himself. The Battle of Ampfing (1800) took place on 1 December 1800 during the War of the Second Coalition. It was one of the sub-camps of Dachau concentration camp. Isen (river)
The Isen is a small river in southeast Upper Bavaria with a length of about 81 kilometres. The Isen rises near Lacken (in the municipality of Maitenbeth, district of Mühldorf am Inn) and flows through one of the most unspoiled regions of Old Bavaria (''Altbayern''): the Isen Valley. First seeing the light of day in the district of Mühldorf, the waters of the Isen flow initially into the district of Erding the villages of Isen, Lengdorf and Dorfen, and then return again to Mühldorf district coursing through ( Schwindegg, Ampfing, Mettenheim, Mühldorf am Inn and Erharting). Finally it flows into the Inn in the district of Altötting, municipality Winhöring, opposite Neuötting.
