Munhwa Yu Clan
As of 2000, more than 600,000 people have surname of Yu or Ryu (柳) in South Korea. Over 280,000 indivisuals of them are Munhwa Yu (文化 柳), and there are other people with Jeonju (全州), Jinju (晉州), Goheung (高興), Gangneung (江陵), Seosan (瑞山), and Pungsan (豐山) as their first ancestor's hometown. In the past, all of surname Ryu were believed to be from Munhwa Yu clan, but now there are variable opinions that the ancestry is different depending on the origin. Ryu Cha-dal (大丞公 柳車達), the founder of Munhwa Yu Clan, was born in Yuju (儒州=文化縣), Hwanghae-do in North Korea. He was received the title of Daeseung (大丞) as a meritorious aristocrat at the founding of Korea (高麗) dynasty in the beginning of the 10th century. Deposed Queen Yu
Princess Munseong (15 August 1576 – 31 October 1623), of the Munhwa Yu clan, was the wife and queen consort of Yi Hon, King Gwanghae, the 15th Joseon monarch. She was queen consort of Joseon from 1608 until her husband's deposition in 1623, after which she was known as Deposed Queen Yu. Biography The future queen was born on 15 August 1576 during the reign of King Seonjo. Her father, Yu Ja-shin, was member of the Munhwa Yu clan. As queen's father, he was given the title Internal Prince Munyang (문양부원군, ''Mun-yang Buwongun''). Her mother was member of the Dongrae Jeong clan, as queen's mother, she was given the title Internal Princess Consort Bongwon (봉원부부인, ''Bongwon Bubuin''). At the age of 11 in 1587, she was selected to become the consort of Yi Hon, Prince Gwanghae, son of Seonjo, born to Kim Gongbin, senior 1st rank king's concubine. Grand Princess Consort Munhwa
Princess Consort Munhwa of the Munhwa Yu clan (Hangul: 문화부부인 문화 유씨, Hanja: 文化府夫人 文化 柳氏; 27 October 1598 – 3 August 1676) was a Korean Royal Family member though her marriage as the first wife of Grand Prince Neungwon, the second son of Wonjong of Joseon and Queen Inheon. Lady Yu was the daughter of Yu Hyo-rib (유효립). Yu Hyo-rib was the son of Yu Hui-gyeon (유희견), the older brother of Yu Hui-bun (유희분) who was the nephew of Yu Ja-sin (유자신), the father of Deposed Queen Yu and the father in-law of Gwanghaegun of Joseon. Marriage She married with Seonjo of Joseon's 5th son, Prince Jeongwon's 3rd son, Yi-Bo, Prince Neungwon (이보 능원군).
