Munday ( ) is a city in Knox County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,246 at the 2020 census. Geography Munday is located at (33.449292, –99.626028). It is situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 277, State Highway 222, and Farm Roads 1581 and 2811 in southeastern Knox County. Munday is approximately 75 miles from both Abilene and Wichita Falls. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , all land. History The community dates from 1893, when a store was built at the site. Originally known as Maud, it was renamed for postmaster R.P. Munday when the first post office was established in 1894. In 1903, West Munday merchants—separated by a thousand yards from East Munday—moved their buildings to the east. Goree is a city in Knox County, Texas, United States. The population was 203 at the 2010 census, down from 321 at the 2000 census. A July 1, 2013 U.S. Census Bureau estimate placed the population at 207. Geography Goree is located at (33.468707, –99.523874). It is situated at the junction of U.S. Highway 277 and FM 266 in southeastern Knox County, approximately 84 miles north of Abilene. By 1887, a settlement was centered around a store and post office built by Bill Benedict. Originally known as Riley Springs, the community was renamed Goree after Robert D. Throckmorton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, its population was 1,440. Its county seat is Throckmorton. The county was created in 1858 and later organized in 1879. It is named for William Throckmorton, an early Collin County settler. Throckmorton County is one of six prohibition, or entirely dry, counties in Texas. Goree Independent School District was a public school district based in Goree, Texas ( USA). The district consisted of a single campus - Goree School - that served students in grades pre-kindergarten through twelve. It was located in southeastern Knox County and extended into northeastern Haskell and northwestern Throckmorton counties. Goree School was the 1972 and 1973 Texas eight-man football state champions. The eight-man title was contested for only four years (1972 through 1975); thus, Goree won 50 percent of the titles. Munday High School
Munday High School is a public high school located in Munday, Texas (USA) and classified as a 1A school by the UIL. It is part of the Munday Consolidated Independent School District located in southeastern Knox County. In 2003, neighboring Goree High School in Goree, Texas was consolidated with Munday and all high school grades began attending Munday. Munday High School became known "officially" as Munday Secondary School not long after the merger with Goree. The Goree school became a junior high school for the district until 2009 when the school closed and those students were transferred to Munday.
