''Munafik'' (Malay: ''Hypocrite'') is a 2016 Malaysian supernatural horror film directed by Syamsul Yusof. It was his ninth film as well as his second horror film after '' Khurafat'' (2011) and also the first film in a planned ''Munafik'' trilogy. It stars Syamsul himself, Fizz Fairuz, Pekin Ibrahim and Nabila Huda. The film depicts Adam, a Muslim medical practitioner who is unable to continue with his job and accept the reality of his wife's death. After he meets Maria, unsettling things start to happen. The film was released on February 25, 2016, in Malaysia and October 5, 2016, in Indonesia. It received positive reviews from film critics and has grossed RM17.04 million nationwide, making ''Munafik'' the best-selling Malaysian film of 2016. The film garnered nine nominations at the 2016 Malaysian Film Festival and won five, including Best National Language Film and Best Director. ''Munafik 2'' () is a 2018 Malaysian supernatural horror film directed and written by Syamsul Yusof. A sequel to ''Munafik'' (2016) and the second instalment in a planned ''Munafik'' trilogy, the film stars Syamsul himself, Fizz Fairuz, Maya Karin, Nasir Bilal Khan, Fauzi Nawawi, Mawi, Rahim Razali and Indonesian actress, Weni Panca. Filming began from March to May 2017 in Kuala Lumpur, the film was released on 30 August 2018 and became commercial success, grossing RM48 Million, it became Malaysia second highest grossing local film. Syamsul Yusof
Mohd Syamsul Mohd Yusof (born 21 May 1984) is a Malaysian actor, film director, writer, producer and singer. He is the son of producer and director Yusof Haslam. He is the youngest director to win the Malaysian Film Festival for Best Director award, doing so at the age of 25. Having won best director awards six times ever since at the Malaysian Film Festival and Anugerah Skrin, and was named Best Director at the 57th Asia Pacific Film Festival in Cambodia for his work in the horror/religious movie ''Munafik''. Mohd Iznan "Pekin" Ibrahim (born 25 October 1981) is a Malaysian actor. Md. Yusof bin Md. Haslam (born 24 April 1954) is a Malaysian actor, film director and producer.
