Mumsnet is a London-based internet forum, created in 2000 by Justine Roberts for discussion between parents of children and teenagers. History and finances Mumsnet was created in 2000 by Justine Roberts, who came up with the idea of a website to help parents pool information and advice, following a disastrous first family holiday with her one-year-old twins. Roberts persuaded friends Carrie Longton and Steven Cassidy to help her build the site. The website grew to become one of the most influential online forums for parents; in November 2009, then–Prime Minister Gordon Brown, opposition leader David Cameron and many other leading UK government ministers took part in live webchats with Mumsnet users. Justine Juliette Alice Roberts (born October 1967) is the founder and chief executive of British websites Mumsnet and Gransnet. Early life Roberts was educated at Guildford High School and at New College, Oxford, where she read PPE. Career Roberts was named in the Media Guardian's 2010 power 100. Along with Mumsnet co-founder Carrie Longton, she was voted number 7 in BBC ''Woman's Hours "Power List 2013" of the most powerful women in the UK. Netmums is a website for parents in the United Kingdom, established in 2000. It operates as a network of local sites, and offers information to both mothers and fathers about parenting. The Coffee House web forum launched in 2004 for mothers to chat, make friends and exchange advice online. As of 2012 the site included over 150 local websites, 500 national meet-up groups for mothers and 1,500 bloggers in its network. History Netmums was founded by Siobhan Freegard, Cathy Court and Sally Russell who met at playgroup in Harrow, north west London in 2000. Freegard was born in Bristol and started her career as a marketer for hospitality provider Keith Prowse.
