Amharic ( or ; (Amharic: ), ', ) is an Ethiopian Semitic language, which is a subgrouping within the Semitic branch of the Afroasiatic languages. It is spoken as a first language by the Amharas, and also serves as a lingua franca for all other populations residing in major cities and towns of Ethiopia. The language serves as the official working language of the Ethiopian federal government, and is also the official or working language of several of Ethiopia's federal regions. It has over 31,800,000 mother-tongue speakers, with more than 25,100,000 second language speakers. Mulugeta Abate
Mulugeta Abate was an Ethiopian songwriter, arranger, and lyricist popular for his prolific work on about 400 different albums and more than 4000 songs in various languages of Ethiopia. His latest works include the album by '' Man Alemosoh'', which featured a popular song, "Wello". He was also credited for albums by dozens of singers in the Oromo language including the pop star '' Saiha Sami'', and Desaligne Mersah in the Gurage language. He also arranged the popular Amharic song "ሕልሜን የት ልክሰሰው" sung by Gosaye Tesfye. Mulugeta Abate was born in Kombolcha, Wollo, Ethiopia. He was also known by another name, Roobaa Dhaabaa (Oromo name). Mulugeta Bekele (born 2 January 1947) is an Ethiopian scientist and academic. He is an associate Professor of Physics at Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia. He completed his PhD in Physics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 1997. He has been awarded the Andrei Sakharov Prize by the American Physical Society (APS) "For tireless efforts in defense of human rights and freedom of expression and education anywhere in the world, and for inspiring students, colleagues and others to do the same." Mulugeta Buli (1917–1960), was an Ethiopian military general and politician. Biography After completing mission school Buli attended the Tafari Makonnen School and the Holeta Military Academy, and was the only Oromo people, Oromo officer cadet in the latter institution. He was an opponent of Italian fascism, and fled to Kenya and Djibouti during the Italian occupation of Ethiopia. He fought in the Battle of Maychew as an officer in Haile Selassie's elite Guard contingent which was better trained and equipped than most other Ethiopian units. As commander of the Imperial Body Guard from 1941 until 1955, he established the Kagnew Battalions and the Ethiopian Public Security Department. Mulugeta Gebrehiwot Berhe is a peace researcher holding the position, , of a senior fellow at the World Peace Foundation, Tufts University. He was a rebel of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) when the EPRDF was a guerilla army. He led the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration program of the 380,000 armed rebels after the EPRDF gained control of Ethiopia in 1991. Mulugeta was a mediator in the Darfur Peace Agreement negotiations that led to the 2006 Abuja Agreement and the 2011 Doha Agreement during peace process for the War in Darfur. Mulugeta Seraw ( am, ሙሉጌታ ስራው; October 21, 1960 – November 13, 1988) was an Ethiopian student who traveled to the United States to attend college. He was 28 when he was murdered by three white supremacists in November 1988 in Portland, Oregon. They were convicted, and Mulugeta's father and son—who was six years old—filed (and won) a civil lawsuit against the killers and an affiliated organization, holding them liable for the murder. Mulugeta Wami (born 17 July 1982) is an Ethiopian long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. He has a personal best of 2:07:11 hours for the distance. He was the 2013 winner of the Ljubljana Marathon. Born in Addis Ababa, he is the brother of Gete Wami, the 1999 world champion and 2000 Olympic runner-up in the 10,000 metres. Mulugeta Wendimu Genbere (Amharic: ሙሉጌታ ወንድሙ; born 7 January 1985, in Addis Ababa) is an Ethiopian middle- and long-distance runner. He finished third over 3000 metres at the 2004 IAAF World Athletics Final. He also competed at the Olympic Games in Athens that year, finishing tenth in the 1500 metres competition. He reached the semi-finals of the event at the 2008 Summer Olympics. ''Ras'' Mulugeta Yeggazu (Amharic: ሙሉጌታ ይገዙ; killed 27 February 1936) was an Ethiopian government official. He served as Imperial Fitawrari, Commander of the Mahel Sefari (Central Army) of the Ethiopian Army during the Second Italo-Ethiopian War. Biography Mulugeta fought as a young warrior in the Battle of Adwa during the First Italo-Ethiopian War. He served as Minister of Finance during the last years of Emperor Menelik II's reign and then again under Empress Zewditu (1907-1915). From 1916 to 1917, he was Ethiopia's Minister of Foreign Affairs. While governor of Illubabor, Mulugeta escorted then Ras Tafari (the later Emperor Haile Selassie) on his tour of Europe in 1924. Ethiopians are the native inhabitants of Ethiopia, as well as the global diaspora of Ethiopia.
