Mullaitivu Hospital
Mullaitivu Hospital is a government hospital in Mullaitivu, Sri Lanka. It is the leading hospital in Mullaitivu District and is controlled by the provincial government in Jaffna. As of 2010 it had 256 beds. The hospital is sometimes called Mullaitivu District General Hospital or Mullaitivu District Hospital. This hospital has had a troubled past. It was once very overcrowded, according to information from Parliamentary debates in 1961. When the December 26, 2004, tsunami hit the area, this hospital had 30 beds. The hospital was from the coast and was completely surrounded by water for a time. After the tsunami hit, a number of nurses and staff had lost their homes and had to sleep in hospital offices or in tents some distance from the hospital. The Red Cross helped repair the hospital and provided tents to serve as temporary shelter for hospital staff. The tents were set up adjacent to the hospital. Northern Provincial Council
Northern Provincial Council ( ta, வட மாகாண சபை ''Vaṭa Mākāṇa Capai''; NPC) is the provincial council for the Northern Province in Sri Lanka. In accordance with the Sri Lankan constitution, NPC has legislative power over a variety of matters including agriculture, education, health, housing, local government, planning, road transport and social services. The constitution also gives it powers over police and land but successive central governments have refused to devolve these powers to the provinces. Mullaitivu
Mullaitivu ( ta, முல்லைத்தீவு, translit=Mullaittīvu; si, මූලදූව, translit=Mūladūva) is the main town of Mullaitivu District, situated on the north-eastern coast of Northern Province, Sri Lanka. A largely fishing settlement, the town in the early twentieth century grew as an anchoring harbour of the small sailing vessels transporting goods between Colombo and Jaffna. Jaffna (, ) is the capital city of the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. It is the administrative headquarters of the Jaffna District located on a peninsula of the same name. With a population of 88,138 in 2012, Jaffna is Sri Lanka's 12th most populous city. An earthquake and a tsunami, known as the Boxing Day Tsunami and, by the scientific community, the Sumatra–Andaman earthquake, occurred at 07:58:53 local time (UTC+7) on 26 December 2004, with an epicentre off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia.
