Mujahideen Shura Council (Syria)
The Mujahideen Shura Council ( ar, مجلس شورى مجاهدي الشرقية ''Majlis Shūrā Mujāhidīn ash-Sharqīyah'', meaning "Shura Council of the Mujahideen of the Eastern Area", also known by the Arabic acronym ''Mishmish''), is a coalition of Islamist rebel groups in Deir ez-Zor which formed in order to fight the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) during the Syrian Civil War. The leader of the coalition was killed by ISIL around 12 June 2014. Pan-Islamism
Pan-Islamism ( ar, الوحدة الإسلامية) is a political movement advocating the unity of Muslims under one Islamic country or state – often a caliphate – or an international organization with Islamic principles. Pan-Islamism was launched in Turkey at the end of the 19th century by Sultan Abdul-Hamid II for the purpose of combating the process of westernization and fostering the unification of Islam. Pan-Islamism differentiates itself from pan-nationalistic ideologies, for example Pan-Arabism, by seeing the ummah (Muslim community) as the focus of allegiance and mobilization, excluding ethnicity and race as primary unifying factors. The Lions of the East Army ( ar, جيش أسود الشرقية; ''Jaysh Usud al-Sharqiya'') is a Syrian rebel group formerly affiliated with the Free Syrian Army's Southern Front that was formed in August 2014 and is based in southeastern Syria. Many of the group's fighters are al-Shaitat tribesmen from the Deir ez-Zor Governorate. The group was also active in Damascus city between January and July 2015, when its unit in Damascus merged into Jaysh al-Islam's 8th Brigade.
