''Mug'' ( pl, Twarz, lit=Face) is a 2018 Polish drama film directed by Małgorzata Szumowska. It was selected to compete for the Golden Bear in the main competition section at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. The film was awarded Jury Grand Prix at the festival. Synopsis Since 6 November 2010 in Świebodzin, western Poland, stands the tallest statue of Christ in the world, 36 meters excluding the base. In 2013, a 33-year-old man, victim of a workplace accident, underwent the first face transplant ever performed in Poland. The film merges these two national records of the director's compatriots. Małgorzata Szumowska
Małgorzata Szumowska (; born 26 February 1973) is a Polish film director, screenwriter and producer, born in Kraków. Her 2013 film '' In the Name Of'' received the Teddy Award for Best Feature at the 63rd Berlin International Film Festival, and received the Grand Prix at the 32nd annual Istanbul Film Festival. Her film ''Body'' was selected to be screened in the main competition section of the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. Szumowska won the Silver Bear for Best Director for ''Body''. In 2018, she received Jury Grand Prix at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival for her film ''Mug''. Career Szumowska spent two years studying history of art at the Jagiellonian University before she started film studies.  Szumowska graduated from the celebrated National Film School in Łódź, which boasts such alumni as Andrzej Wajda, Roman Polański or Krzysztof Kieślowski.  As a student, Szumowska made a short which was ranked 14th in the history of Łódź Film ...

Face Transplant
A face transplant is a medical procedure to replace all or part of a person's face using tissue from a donor. Part of a field called "Vascularized Composite Tissue Allotransplantation" (VCA) it involves the transplantation of facial skin, the nasal structure, the nose, the lips, the muscles of facial movement used for expression, the nerves that provide sensation, and, potentially, the bones that support the face. The recipient of a face transplant will take life-long medications to suppress the immune system and fight off rejection. The world's first partial face transplant on a living human was carried out in France in 2005. The world's first full face transplant was completed in Spain in 2010.
