Mrs Danvers (band)
Mrs Danvers is an American indie pop band from Boston, Massachusetts. The band consists of Ann Driscoll (lead vocals/guitar/synth), Dhy Berry (bass/synth/vocals), and Steph Barker (drums). Though having formed in January 2009, they have already built a cult following among the LGBT community. They borrow their stage moniker from the character from the novel ''Rebecca'' by Daphne du Maurier, best known for its 1940 film adaptation directed by Alfred Hitchcock. In August 2009, the band released their debut EP, ''What Did I Do''. History The idea of Mrs Danvers was created by Ann Driscoll after enrolling in a Hitchcock film course at the University of Missouri. Realizing she would rather pursue a career in music than journalism, Driscoll left Missouri to attend Berklee College of Music. LGBT pride (also known as gay pride or simply pride) is the promotion of the self-affirmation, dignity, equality, and increased visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people as a social group. Meshell Ndegeocello
Michelle Lynn Johnson, better known as Meshell Ndegeocello (; born August 29, 1968), is a German-born American singer-songwriter, rapper, and bassist. She has gone by the name Meshell Suhaila Bashir-Shakur which is used as a writing credit on some of her later work. Her music incorporates a wide variety of influences, including funk, soul, jazz, hip hop, reggae and rock. She has received significant critical acclaim throughout her career, being nominated for eleven Grammy Awards, and winning one. She also has been credited for helping to "spark the neo-soul movement". Dyke March
A dyke march is a lesbian visibility and protest march, much like the original Gay Pride parades and gay rights demonstrations. The main purpose of a dyke march is the encouragement of activism within the lesbian community. Dyke marches commonly take place the Friday or Saturday before LGBT pride parades. Larger metropolitan areas usually have several Pride-related happenings (including picnics, workshops, arts festivals, parties, benefits, dances, and bar events) both before and after the march to further community building; with social outreach to specific segments such as older women, women of color, and lesbian parenting groups. Hunter Valentine is an alternative rock band formed in 2004 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Hunter Valentine have a moderate fan base in southern Ontario. History The current members of Hunter Valentine are Kiyomi McCloskey, Laura Petracca, Leanne Bowes and Aimee Bessada. They signed with True North Records in fall 2006, and released their first full-length album, The Impatient Romantic, on April 10, 2007. Hunter Valentine has also been the staff band at Buck's Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp in New Milford, Connecticut. God-Des And She
God-Des and She are an American hip-hop/pop/soul duo from the Midwest, composed of Alicia Smith (God-des) and Tina Gassen (She). Since they appeared on the Showtime hit series The L Word in 2006, they have sold more than 30,000 albums and toured the world. God-Des is currently home-based in Austin, Texas and has been a regular on the club scene there since 2004. Activism A documentary about God-Des and She was released in 2014, entitled “God-Des & She: Never Give Up.” The film is named after one of their songs “Never Give Up” which is for children who are bullied and feel lost, and discusses affirming identities within the LGBTQIA+ community.
