Mr Russia
Mr Russia is an American garage rock band from Chicago, Illinois, on Lens Records. The band is made up of Ivan (Vocals/Bass) and Josh (Drums). Excluding guitar from the band's instrumentation, Mr Russia has a unique sound notably drawing inspiration from Bob Haggart's Big Noise From Winnetka. Mr Russia has been compared to modern guitar free band Death from Above 1979, as well as hard-to-pinpoint sources such as XTC and Magazine. Mr Russia have shared the stage with The Reverend Horton Heat, Girl in a Coma, Von Iva, Thrones, Two Ton Boa, 31 Knots, Earl Greyhound, The Prairie Cartel and Chewing Pics (featuring Naima Mora). They have also toured on their own. Thrones (band)
Thrones is the solo project of American bassist Joe Preston. Biography Thrones began in 1994 with an untitled cassette on the Punk in My Vitamins? label. He soon released the "Reddleman" single. In 1996, Thrones signed to Communion Records to issue the full-length album ''Alraune''. Thrones then signed to Kill Rock Stars and released the single "The Suckling". In late 1997, Preston began a recording project under the working title "White Rabbit, White Rabbit, White Rabbit". The project was eventually released as two 12 inch EPs; ''White Rabbit'' in 1999, followed by ''Sperm Whale'' in 2000. Both EPs were compiled in the ''Sperm Whale'' CD. In 2005, a compilation of various Thrones material spanning from 1994 to 2001 was released by Southern Lord Records under the title ''Day Late, Dollar Short''. ''Carnival of Souls'' is a 1962 American independent horror film produced and directed by Herk Harvey and written by John Clifford from a story by Clifford and Harvey, and starring Candace Hilligoss. Its plot follows Mary Henry, a young woman whose life is disturbed after a car accident. She relocates to a new city, where she finds herself unable to assimilate with the locals, and becomes drawn to the pavilion of an abandoned carnival. Director Harvey also appears in the film as a ghoulish stranger who stalks her throughout. The film is set to an organ score by Gene Moore. Filmed in Lawrence, Kansas, and Salt Lake City, ''Carnival of Souls'' was shot on a budget of $33,000, and Harvey employed various guerrilla filmmaking techniques to finish the production. ''Chic-a-Go-Go'' is a public-access television cable television children's dance show that airs on Chicago Access Network Television (CAN-TV). The show bills itself as "Chicago's Dance Show for Kids of All Ages". Show description The show invites members of the public to participate in tapings at CAN-TV studios. "The National Anthem" is a song by the English rock band Radiohead, released on their fourth album, ''Kid A'' (2000). The song is moored to a repetitive bassline, and develops in a direction influenced by jazz. Background and recording Radiohead's singer, Thom Yorke, wrote the "National Anthem" bassline when he was 16. In 1997, Radiohead recorded drums and bass for the song, intending to develop it as a B-side for their third album, ''OK Computer'' (1997). Instead, they saved it for their next album, ''Kid A'' (2000). Yorke played bass on the studio recording. "Boys Keep Swinging" is a song by English musician David Bowie, released on 27 April 1979 by RCA Records in the United Kingdom as the lead single from his 1979 album '' Lodger''. It was written by Bowie and Brian Eno and recorded in Montreux and New York City in September 1978 and March 1979. The recording utilised techniques from Eno's Oblique Strategies cards, which resulted in the musicians swapping instruments. Adrian Belew contributed a guitar solo, which he played receiving little guidance and was composited from multiple takes. The song was also built on the same chord sequence as album track "Fantastic Voyage". Musically, "Boys Keep Swinging" contains elements of glam rock, garage rock, funk and new wave, while lyrically, the song deals with the concept of gender identity, featuring various gender-bending lyrics.
