Richard Crotty
Richard T. Crotty (born August 30, 1948 in Dobbs Ferry, New York) is an American politician who served as the Mayor of Orange County, Florida. Biography Crotty grew up in Orlando. He graduated from Valencia Community College in 1970 and University of Central Florida in 1972, and he also attended Florida State University. After three years doing waste manage consultation under contract from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, he was selected to the Orlando Chamber of Commerce's first "Leadership Orlando" program. In 1978, he was first elected to the Florida House of Representatives. Later he served in the Florida Senate as the Republican Floor Leader. The first piece of legislation he co-sponsored was the law that changed the name of FTU, his alma mater, to the University of Central Florida. Central Florida
Central Florida is a region of the U.S. state of Florida. Jonathan May
Jonathan May (October 9, 1958 – February 27, 2010) was an American cellist and conductor (music), conductor. He resided in the Orlando, Florida area and was noted for founding and directing numerous youth orchestras and music programs throughout the region. Early life One of seven children, May was born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Walter and Eleanor May, each an accomplished musician and teacher. At the age of four, the family moved to Fairport, New York where Jonathan would learn to play the cello at a young age. He was a student of Lynn Richmond and played in the Rochester Youth Symphony. When Jonathan was in high school, the family moved, to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Maureen May (born September 22, 1962) is an American cellist and conductor. She resides in the Orlando, Florida, area and is a noted cellist in the region and co-founder and artistic director of the Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony. Early life May was born in Sanborn, Iowa. May's parents are Daryle and Marian Getting. May is the youngest of six children. Education As a young student, May studied cello with Mary Eleanor May, whose son Jonathan May was also a cellist in a musical household. May moved to Colorado, where she graduated with a degree in Cello Performance from Colorado State University. Career In Colorado, the May and her husband founded the Canyon Youth Orchestra and adopted a lifelong philosophy of community involvement through music. Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony
The Metropolitan Area Youth Symphony (MAYS) is a youth orchestra in the Central Florida region founded in honor of conductor and cellist, Jonathan May. The MAYS is led by Artistic Directors Maureen May and Michael Miller and features eight orchestral groups spanning beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels, as well as several in-school strings programs. In 2015, MAYS added Dr. Chung Park, Director of Orchestras and String Music Education at the University of Central Florida, to the artistic staff as conductor of the Symphony.
