Mozambique Liberation Front
FRELIMO (; from the Portuguese language, Portuguese , ) is a democratic socialist List of political parties in Mozambique, political party in Mozambique. It is the Dominant-party system, dominant party in Mozambique and has won a majority of the seats in the Assembly of the Republic (Mozambique), Assembly of the Republic in every election since the country's 1994 Mozambican general election, first multi-party election in 1994. Founded in 1962, FRELIMO began as a nationalist movement fighting for the self-determination and independence of Mozambique from Overseas Province of Mozambique, Portuguese colonial rule. Filipe Nyusi
Filipe Jacinto Nyusi (; born 12 February 1959) is a Mozambican politician serving as the fourth President of Mozambique since 2015. He is the current leader of FRELIMO, the party that has governed Mozambique since its independence from Portugal in 1975. Additionally, he has served as the Chairman of the Southern African Development Community since August 2020. During his time in office, President Nyusi has promoted peace and security, and signed multiple agreements with the main opposition parties, RENAMO, to bring a definitive and lasting peace to Mozambique. Nyusi served as the Minister of Defense from 2008 to 2014 under Armando Guebuza. He won the 2014 and 2019 Mozambican presidential elections as the candidate of FRELIMO. Socialist International
The Socialist International (SI) is a political international or worldwide organisation of political parties which seek to establish democratic socialism. It consists mostly of socialist and labour-oriented political parties and organisations. Although formed in 1951 as a successor to the Labour and Socialist International, it has antecedents in the late 19th century. 1994 Mozambican General Election
General elections were held in Mozambique between 27 and 29 October 1994 to elect a President of Mozambique, president and the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Assembly of the Republic. It was the first time the country had had multi-party elections, as previously FRELIMO had been the sole legal party. Pan-African Parliament
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), also known as the African Parliament, is the legislative body of the African Union. It held its inaugural session in March 2004. The Parliament exercises oversight, and has advisory and consultative powers, having lasting for the first five years. Initially the seat of the Pan-African Parliament was in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, but was later moved to Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
