Mowry Baden
Mowry Baden (born in 1936 in Los Angeles) is an American sculptor who has lived and worked in Canada since 1975. He is known for his gallery-based kinaesthetic sculptures and for his public sculpture, both of which require a strong element of bodily interaction on the part of the viewer. Life Baden was born January 17, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. A 1954 graduate of Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach, California, Baden studied at Pomona College (BA, 1958) and Stanford University (MFA, 1965). He has practiced sculpture for nearly 50 years and has taught sculpture at Raymond College, Pomona College, UBC, and the University of Victoria, from which he retired in 1997. Artist Chris Burden was one of his students. He lives in Victoria, British Columbia, where he continues to produce sculpture and public art. He is married to actor-director-writer Judith McDowell. William Mowry House
The William Mowry House is an historic farm house on Farnum Pike in North Smithfield, Rhode Island, United States. It is a -story plank-framed house, five bays wide, with a gable roof and a large central chimney. The main entrance is centered on the main (south-facing) entry, and is enclosed within a single-story hip-roof vestibule of 20th-century construction. A small single-story ell extends to the west of the main block. The interior follows a typical center-chimney plan, with the kitchen and parlor in the front of the house, and the dining room flanked by a small pantry and bathroom in the rear. The house was built c. 1802–05 by William Mowry, whose family has owned land in the area since the 17th century. Mowry City is a ghost town first in Dona Anna County, then Grant County and finally in Luna County, New Mexico, United States, approximately north of Deming. Originally it was the crossing point of Cooke's Wagon Road on the Mimbres River. Mowry City was formerly the location of Rio Mimbres, a stop on the San Antonio-San Diego Mail Line, and Miembre's River Station, a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail and later stagecoach routes. The town lasted from 1859 until the arrival of the railroad in southern New Mexico in 1881. William Augustus Mowry
William Augustus Mowry (August 13, 1829 – January 24, 1917) was an American educator and historical writer, born at Uxbridge, Massachusetts. Family William Augustus was an eighth-generation descendant of the Mowry family that immigrated from England to Providence in 1666. He was born to Johnathan Mowry and Hannah (Brayton) Mowry. His mother was from Rehoboth, Massachusetts. His father was from Uxbridge. It appears that William Augustus had two sisters and that he was the youngest in the family. His father was a farmer, a "fanner" and a boot and shoemaker. One of his sisters died in childhood. His father died at the age of 32 after a severe flu-like illness. Daniel Mowry Jr. (August 27, 1729 – July 6, 1806) was an American cooper and farmer from Smithfield, Rhode Island. He served as a delegate for Rhode Island in the Continental Congress from 1780 to 1782. Family and early life Daniel Jr. was the son of Captain Daniel (1697–1787) and Mary Steere (c. 1700 – 1776) Mowry. His family had been and remained prominent in Smithfield for a number of years. Besides his father, the family included farmers, militia leaders, and tavern keepers. Young Daniel learned a trade as a barrel maker, entered commerce, and later opened a tavern of his own.
