Moussa Salaou Barmou
Moussa Salaou Barmou is a Nigerien military officer and one of the leaders of the 2023 Nigerien coup d'état. On 26 July 2023, he helped oust President Mohamed Bazoum. Career Barmou received training in the United States, both at Fort Moore and the National Defense University. In 2015, Barmou, who at the time was the Head of Niger's special forces, stated in an interview that Niger was conducting operations against Boko Haram to ensure security and peace. Barmou stated that the Nigerien Armed forces had good relations with the United States. Niger Army
The Niger Armed Forces (french: Forces armées nigériennes) (FAN) includes military armed force service branches ( Niger Army and Niger Air Force), paramilitary services branches (National Gendarmerie of Niger and National Guard of Niger) and the National Police (Niger), National Police. 2023 Nigerien Coup D'état
On 26 July 2023, a coup d'état occurred in Niger when the country's presidential guard detained President Mohamed Bazoum, and Presidential Guard commander General officer, General Abdourahamane Tchiani proclaimed himself the leader of a new military National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, junta, shortly after confirming the coup a success. This was the fifth military coup d'état since the country gained independence from France in 1960, and the first since 2010 Nigerien coup d'état, 2010. 2023 Nigerien Crisis
On 26 July 2023, a coup d'état occurred in Niger, during which the country's presidential guard removed and detained President Mohamed Bazoum. Subsequently, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the Commander of the Presidential Guard, proclaimed himself the leader of a military junta, established the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, after confirming the success of the coup. In response to this development, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued an ultimatum on 30 July, giving the coup leaders in Niger one week to reinstate Bazoum, with the threat of international sanctions and potential use of force. Mohamed Bazoum ( ar, محمد بازوم), is a Nigerien politician who is the current List of heads of state of Niger, president of the Republic of Niger. He has been in office since 2 April 2021. Before becoming President, he served as the President of the Nigerien Party for Democracy and Socialism (PNDS-Tarayya). He also served in as a Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and African Integration (Niger), Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1995 to 1996 and again from 2011 to 2015. He was Minister of State at the President of Niger, Presidency from 2015 to 2016, and was Minister of State for the Interior between 2016 and the summer of 2020, when he resigned to focus on running for the 2020–21 Nigerien general election, 2020–21 presidential election. Fort Moore was the second of two historic U.S. Military Forts in Los Angeles, California, during the Mexican–American War.
