Mountain Lodge Park, New York
Mountain Lodge Park is in the town of Blooming Grove in Orange County, New York, United States. It is built on the western slope of Schunemunk Mountain, the highest in the county. The population was 1,910 as of the 2020 census. History Historically, Mountain Lodge Park was a community of summer homes, but over the years it has gradually been transformed to mostly full year residences. There are approximately 800 homes that are split between the two 'sides'. One side is considered the Mountain Lodge Park side and the other side is called Glenwood Hills. Mountain Lodge Park was developed with some fits and starts, just before and then after World War Two. Glenwood Hills was developed in the 1950s, with building continuing into the 1970s. Schunemunk Mountain
Schunemunk Mountain (also spelled Schunnemunk) is the highest mountain in Orange County, New York. The summit is located in the town of Blooming Grove, with other portions in Cornwall and Woodbury. The community of Mountain Lodge Park is built up its western slope. The mountain is a popular recreational resource in the area. While only the northeastern quadrant and summit are part of the recently created Schunnemunk State Park, some popular hiking trails and access routes have long crossed the privately owned lands elsewhere on the mountain. Conservationists hope that eventually the state will be able to acquire the whole mountain. Washingtonville is a village in the town of Blooming Grove, Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 5,657 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Poughkeepsie– Newburgh– Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area as well as the larger New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY- NJ- CT- PA Combined Statistical Area. The village is named in honor of George Washington. History Washingtonville was first settled in 1731. The village maintained a slow but steady growth during the second half of the 18th century. In 1809, John Jaques, a boot and shoemaker, set up his shop in this tiny settlement of nine houses, then known as "Little York."
