Mountain House, Alameda County, California
Mountain House (formerly, Zimmerman's and Zimmerman's Mountain House) was a historic waystop for forty-niners halfway from San Francisco to the Sierra Nevada gold country. Today it is an unincorporated community in Alameda County, California, United States. It is located east-northeast of Livermore, and east of the Altamont Pass, historically the Livermore Pass, at an altitude of 207 feet (63 m), between the California Aqueduct and the Delta-Mendota Canal. San Joaquin County's Mountain House borrowed the name of the historic Mountain House and is located two miles (3 km) to the northeast further downstream on Mountain House Creek. Mountain House is a planned community in San Joaquin County, California. It is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area at the border of the San Joaquin Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area, Mountain House is northwest of Tracy, 10 miles from Livermore, 0.5 miles from Interstate 580 to San Francisco, and about east of San Francisco. Lincoln Highway
The Lincoln Highway is the first transcontinental highway in the United States and one of the first highways designed expressly for automobiles. Conceived in 1912 by Indiana entrepreneur Carl G. Stockton is a city in and the county seat of San Joaquin County in the Central Valley of the U.S. state of California. Diablo Range
The Diablo Range is a mountain range in the California Coast Ranges subdivision of the Pacific Coast Ranges in northern California, United States. It stretches from the eastern San Francisco Bay area at its northern end to the Salinas Valley area at its southern end. Geography The Diablo Range extends from the Carquinez Strait in the north to Orchard Peak and Polonio Pass in the south, near the point where State Route 46 crosses over the Coast Ranges at Cholame, as described by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). San Joaquin River
The San Joaquin River (; es, Río San Joaquín) is the longest river of Central California. Distributary
A distributary, or a distributary channel, is a stream that branches off and flows away from a main stream channel. Distributaries are a common feature of river deltas. The phenomenon is known as river bifurcation. The opposite of a distributary is a tributary, which flows ''towards'' and joins another stream. Distributaries are often found where a stream approaches a lake or an ocean. They can also occur inland, on alluvial fans, or where a tributary stream bifurcates as it nears its confluence with a larger stream. In some cases, a minor distributary can divert so much water from the main channel that it can later become the main route. Old River (California)
The Old River is a tidal distributary of the San Joaquin River that flows for about through the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in Northern California. The Old River was once the main channel of the San Joaquin until navigation (Stockton Deepwater Shipping Channel) and flood control projects in the late 19th and 20th century fixed the San Joaquin to its present course past Stockton. It diverges from the San Joaquin near Tracy, about upstream from Antioch, and first runs west towards Mountain House, then north to rejoin the San Joaquin above Antioch. The Yokuts (previously known as MariposasPowell, 1891:90–91.) are an ethnic group of Native Americans native to central California. Before European contact, the Yokuts consisted of up to 60 tribes speaking several related languages. ''Yokuts'' is both plural and singular, ''Yokut'', while common, is erroneous. 'Yokut' should only be used when referring specifically to the Tachi Yokut Tribe of Lemoore, CA.
